I believe they can be.
I've heard of cases where companies have been suspected of buying off the representative of another individual. I've never really personally witnessed it, although a friend took a company to tribunal because they unfairly sacked him as they was trying to force him into redundancy and he had a very strong case but lost despite the owner of our workplace at the time offering him a small amount to settle the claim.

I often wondered whether lawyers..opposing lawyers..made deals
with each other unbeknown to the clients they represent. I think
it happens with judges and police.

Yes, it can happen. Money is the number 1 factor of corruption and it doesn't change anything whether it's in a legal system, government, etc.. If you wanna win the case even though you're losing then money will do the trick.

Is that how to win the case? Anyone got a million dollars to give me;)???
I rather win fairly then by corruption

surely in the life to come.

Never forget, " 99% of lawyers are responsible for giving the rest a bad reputation!".
It is fundamental to the legal profession that there is no right or wrong, only legal or illegal. Combine that thought with "Innocent until proven guilty" and most lawyers conclude it is perfectly acceptable to do anything as long as one does not get caught.
While the above sounds like a harsh view of the legal profession, experience tells me it is true.

Wow.. that is a really potent post you have here and
I cannot challenge your position.
I agree with you that many will do what they can as
long as they are not caught..after all who better
knows all the loop holes then a lawyer..;)

First hand, oh yes and a plight that can last for years. Always for the reasons of financial gain. It is only when they get caught may they shut down but even then, another angle can continue.
Lawyers can be bought but they can also steal. Or should I say set a client up to take them for everything that they are worth. I have seen it.
Although there are some very good lawyers who are honest and upstanding, it appears they are a minority.

Are there any such lawyers that are not in it for the money?
Are there those who are really and truly in it for the client?
ISn't it all about money? Why are there no pro bono lawyers?
