Would You Like To Live In Another Country?  email this discussion to a friend?

I was thinking about this myself today after a conversation with a friend of mine who lives overseas... and I am not sure whether I would like to live in another country... I guess visiting another country just for a holiday would be nice, and maybe once I got to know about the place then maybe I would change my mind, for for the most part I am happy where I am here in the UK, although it can be quite scary sometimes with the changes that the goverments make.

What country would you like to move to, or would think about moving to, do you think you would find it easy to start a fresh there, with everything different to what you are used to?

Hello! Well I would prefer any English speaking country with a good Economical and democratic status.UK, Canada, Australia, even USA somewhere at the bottom of the list. But my favorite of all is the UK. Even if I've never been there I admire your country with almost anything it has attached to it,technology, economical culture, tradition, music, community, life style,nature... Even if I am aware of the fact that every country has it's cracks and flows.
Life here in Romania is getting from worse to "worser" because of the stupidity and corruption of the people that are living us. They destroyed the economical status of this country in less than 5 years and they don't even bother to hide it.And now our dear corrupt president Basescu is one step from becoming a dictator, many important people in the government have publicly released the fact the he is taking decisions that he shouldn't even touch. It's sad because it's a beautiful country with amazing potential and it's falling apart day by day. I can't wait to finally purchase my plane ticket and follow my father's steps in oil business.

If it would be easy to make a fresh start? No? Does it worth it ? Yes. It's my lifetime dream.

I guess we're the same. I don't want to live in other countries but I want to stay like for a month vacation and traveling. I just want to see how people from different countries live their lives.

If given the chance to travel again, I would choose Greece. I think there are lots of interesting things in this country.

Well, I love living in the UK and have never really thought of moving to a different one, especially with all my family living in the UK too. I live in England and the only place I would consider moving to is Wales really, but that's still part of the UK, of course! lol

Hi Rosie,

I am a fellow Brit and I have to admit that there have been times I have wondered about moving elsewhere. Alas I have never actually left the UK yet so I don't think I would do well to have my first trip away permanent, but it is a nice idea. If I moved I would probably end up somewhere in the EU, in one of the places that doesn't have such long working hours and stuff. Somewhere more laid back. That said I watched Griff Rhy's Cities a few weeks ago and Australia really seemed nice and relaxed, I could imagine being in a place where everyone is friendly. I miss that aspect of the UK. I would definitely have to somewhere that spoke English though since my ability to learn other languages leaves a lot to be desired sad

As for whether it would be easy I am guessing it would be pretty hard unless I went somewhere where I knew someone (which rules out most of the world) who could show me the ropes and red tape. I also imagine it would be hard to get permanent status because I think most places are fussy like us now about who they accept aren't they? And I don't exactly have qualifications another country would leap at the chance of having lol! Having got all that sorted I think it could become nice and easy to live elsewhere, like moving house I guess it will become normal after a few months happy

All the best,
Dranz thumbup

I'm an American/French citizen, but I was raised in the US and I still live here today. Personally, after taking a few Sociology classes and getting a little more informed, I think I would much rather live in another country, probably a francophone country like Switzerland, France, or Canada (Quebec). Things here are just a little too messed up for me!

Even without the problems that the US has I do plan on moving to France, even if it's just for a year or two, because I want to really experience my culture more.

For my view of point, I am contented and satisfied with my way of living in my own hometown here in the philippines. I am comfortable with my life to where I am now, the only reason that I would like to move out in this country because I would like to be with my beau.

Where ever my beau right now, I just want to be with him. Whether that would be in UK, USA or Australia or maybe he would be in Saudi, Qatar or Malaysia as long as I am with him every thing is ok and good for me.

Hi Rosie. In my opinion, nothing still beats the comforts of you own home, your own country. We just tend to look and dream to live elsewhere to fill the gap or look for things or experiences that our own country don't have. But eventually most of those people who have chosen to live abroad now misses and wants to go back to their own country especially when they get old. Thus reminiscing their childhood memories.

As for you, I can see that your not really that enthusiastic and eager to live abroad. You just might as well just be on tour once in a while if you want.
