I am asking this questions but I know there are paremts that allow this! I don't think it is a good idea! A child can get spoiled and so many children want to grow up so fast! Let the child be innocent for awhile! let a child be a child! I thought of this discussion when I saw on tv Will and Jada Smith's daughter Willow, age 9,dressed up like Rhianna! Not just clothes but with the hair, too! Willow is 9 and looks like she is 25! Now that is going to far! I know Jada and Will can afford this but I just wish a children's innocent wasn't taken away! I know children like this but come on! Let the kid be a kid!

Hi Blue,
You don't have to be rich to allow your child to dress like that. I see many really really young girls walking around all dressed to look much older and sexier than they should. It's not just the clothes. It is the make-up and hair all combined. For my girls, age-appropriate was when they were 18 and on their own. Actually thankfully I never had much trouble with my girls when it came to how they dressed. They all had pretty good taste. Maybe there were moments but it was not a big issue in our house, thankfully.

I remember when I was a kid I just could not wait to become a grown up. My mother would just not allow it. I was not allowed to wear make up or nylons or mini-skirts etc until I was in high school. Even then, she did not like it. The parents need to be putting their foots down on this one.

You are rigth you don't have to be rich to dress like you are rich! I wish parents would not let their kids dress like they think they should! When a kid wants to dress like an adult all the time and does there goes the innocent! I wish kids didn't want to grow up so fast! Kids need to be kids and parents need them to be kids!

When my children were little, we(my wife and I) choose the clothes for them, the age appropriate ones...But there always comes a time when they want to choose their own clothes to wear and don't listen to our suggestions anymore.
But we're still here to guide them on what is the right clothes to wear, whether they like it or not.

I just think parents should decide what their children to wear until they out of high school or else until they are 16! I think parents give in to easy, think there is no harm or just don't care so they let their kids do what they want! It is great for kid to learn indenpence but you have to draw the line somewhere!

My daughter and I are careful about what we let my granddaughters wear. They are 11 and 7 years old. They can't wear really short skirts or really short shorts. and no belly shirts either. I think parents should let kids dress like kids, and not try to have them look grown before their time.

I think kids should dress like kids and just be kids! When I saw Willow smith dressed up she is 21 and she is only 9 it reminded me I have seen lots of young girls dress to look MUCH older then they are! I think parents don't think it is harmful and it is ok. I don't and I think kids should be kids! Kids always want to grow up so fast and parents let them! I wish more parents would let their kids just be kids!

too many things on the market that are way too old for the child, I avoid such things and fortunately my children don't ask for them (not yet, anyway)...

Good point! The people who design and sell clothes like to push the older looking clothes on the younger kids! I hate that and hate when people buy their kids those clothes! Kids need to be kids and partents need to realize that more! At least some parents do but not you!

I'm not talking about babies,I am talking about older children like 8 and older! I got the discussion idea from seeing what Will and Jada Smith's daughter Willow was dressed up like at her brother's movie premier! She looked like she was a mini version of Rihanna! I just hate when I see little kids dressed as adults when they should be dressing and acting more like a normal kid! That is what I was talking about!

I agree with you in a sense, the early years of a child's life are very important as as a kid they need to be themselves and just be kids and do what kids do. I can understand at certain times to have the kid dress up and this could be fun for the kid, "look I look like daddy". If a child is not allowed to develop according to nature and trial and error it could end up causing damage to the child in the long term.
At times I wish to return to those innocent days with no worries and just smiles for just 30 minutes. Happy MyLotting! :)

It is fine if the child just wants to dress up for play but when the child wants to dress like that all the time and the parents permit it then that isn't good! I just wonder how much Jada and Will Smith let their daughter do this? I wish kids were treated more like kids! They want to grow up so fast and it isn't always good when they are allowed to! Kids need to be just kids!
