No doubt everyone will know by now that both the England and USA teams have gone through to the knock-out stages of the World Cup. Yippee! Fabio Capello (England manager) when asked what made the difference he replied "beer!" Haha! I like it. They finally had a bit of a laugh last night and it's paid off. We have Germany next but "bring it on" as Steven Gerrard said. I'm really pleased that the USA have gone through as well because I like the spirit of the side, very good indeed. Pales into comparison to the Isner v Mahut tennis match at Wimbledon later on...all square at 59 games each in the 5th set and they have to come back tomorrow to finish it off! I reckon they should be allowed on Centre Court, in front of the Queen before Murray's match starts. What do you think? Has anyone else witnessed some amazing sport today like I have? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/8757259.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/default.stm

Hello, Janey. I'm feeling the effects of the industrial quantities of vodka I drunk last night, but I'm glad England went through - they were much better last night. I think the best two teams in the group made it, but it's a shame we've got Germany so early - it would have been nice to have a repeat of the 1966 final. I was on holiday in Spain then, and our hotel was a mixture of Germans and English, so the atmosphere was great. Even the Germans thought the much disputed Geoff Hurst goal was a good one. I was only 14 at the time, but looked older, so everyone was buying me bacardis. I got into trouble with mum and dad, because I was drunk as a skunk, but it was worth it. The friend who's house we went to to watch the football is a big tennis fan, so we saw that match. It's a shame either of them has to go out, really. It reminded me of the Gonzalez-Passarel game in 1969, which ran for over 5 hours and caused the introduction of the tie break.

Yes, it is a shame we have Germany so soon. I think it will be a hard match and yet another nail-biter for us fans!!

Hi Girls! Well, put it this way, we tend to play better against the "bigger" teams so, whatever happens, I know we will play well. 3-0 to England is my optimistic prediction! I adore Steven Gerrard. I wish he would smile more often, it suits him!

Yes, it was a major relief to Capello and the boys. And Germany vs. England would be big. You can be sure that the team would turn up. I expect Rooney to be buzzing in that match and to score the goal that might just break the german hearts!! Cheers! Ram

Yes, and what a moment it would be for him to break that drought in the match against Germany in such a big grudge match!! Cheers! Ram

Hi Ram! Well, Rooney is due a goal so he may as well score his first when it really matters. I think once he scores that will be it; more to follow!

Yes, it was a really amazing. I watched the game and was really happy for England. At least they are qualified for next round. Now we will see what will happen tomorrow later. I have not watched the tennis due the time limit but listened to the news. It's really amazing game. the two players are worthy more respecting from us.

Thanks for being happy for England, can't wait to face our old enemy Germany tomorrow! As for Isner, the guy who won the mammoth tennis match, he was knocked out in the 2nd round after only 74 minutes. The poor guy had nothing left to give, which is hardly surprising.

at least another old enemy French is back home. I think England will win tomorrow. I choose to believe it. Last time I was very nervous for them. I thought I better not watch it for my heart health, but I can't help to watch. Happily England won. Tomorrow I will do nothing except sitting in front of tv and surpprt England.

Yes, very exciting! We watched the England match on TV and it was lovely because my husband came home early from work, the kids rushed home from school and we all sat watching it together! I didn't see the Wimbledon epic match but I saw the report about it on the News today. Amazing!!

My husband came home early too! What a lovely coincidence! The pair of us are footy mad so it was lovely having him home for the big game. England played much better too....and I wish they could play in red ALL THE TIME! I watched the conclusion of the tennis epic and I am glad the American won..as he is seeded so is more likely to win the next one. The French guy sulked a bit at losing but it was understandable seeing as it finished up 70-68 in the final set lol. Poor lamb!
