Do You Or Your Partner Hang On To Threadbare Underwear?

Hi Guys! Why I don't bin a certain pair of my husband's boxer shorts off is beyond me, so I must be as bad as him! I noticed holes in his boxers whilst hanging them up on the washing-line. I made sure the peg went over the hole in the crotch bit so my neighbour wouldn't see it. What am I like? I mentioned these boxer shorts to hubby last night...the fact that there's a hole in them and he said, "Really? I didn't know!" He keeps digging them out too as it's not the first time I have hung this particular pair of boxer shorts on the line. I have told him that I will place them at the bottom of his boxer short pile in the drawer, see if he fancies wearing another pair instead (he's got loads by the way) but I have a feeling he wears them all week because it seems to be the only pair I see on a regular basis for washing. There's no way I could wear my knickers all week! As for holes...total no-no! How about you? My Dad's the same with his Y-fronts! Holds on to them for dear life until Mum buys him some more. John has pairs of boxers he can still wear though; like new in fact. How odd!

Hubby wears a pair a day and sometimes 2 a day. If he works outside and gets hot, then he'll change. Whenever I see some clothes that are starting to look old, I throw them away. I dont even ask him. Im also the one to buy his clothes, so he has lots of shorts, socks and t-shirts brand new. The only thing I wont throw away are his old jeans. He wears them only when he's working outside. He'll change jeans when he walks the dog. I dont have to tell him to wear clean clothes, he does. He's very proud about the way he dresses and wont go out in public with dirty clothes. Why dont you just throw them away and tell them they disappeared in the washing machine......so many socks do, so why not shorts also? lol

Believe it or not said boxer shorts are on my ironing pile (I don't always iron them, depends on my mood) so I'll probably take one last look at them before chucking them away lol.

I can believe you iron everything. I dont and I know that everybody I know doesnt either. We iron only men's shirts haha!! Nothing else. Its all permanent press, so when it comes out of the dryer, its perfect. But why bother ironing shorts or panties? If theres a crease in them, it'll go away as soon as you put them on......unless you wear them loose?.......and who will see it anyways? I havent used my iron in years I think. Most people I know dont even own one.

Goodness me, you make me sound like a Domestic Goddess lol. As if! I rarely iron underwear, I promise you! I don't iron everything, it's just that creases in clothes don't necessarily come out on the shopping line or from the washer/dryer as the drum is smaller than the latest models. I know this because Mum has a Hotpoint Washing Machine and seperate Dryer but their drums are huge but the machines are still the same width. Work that one out!

LOL! Hubby has way more clothes than I do but, of course, doesn't wear them all. I'm dying to clear some of them out but - knowing my luck he'll suddenly start looking for a top he hasn't worn in ages and ask me where it is..."Erm, in the Charity Bag my sweet!"

yes, i have to say we do because my hubby was off work for 9 months and now that he finally found a job, we are digging ourselves out of the hole, so underwear is probably one of the last things that will be replaced.

I am long-term unemployed myself so I know what you are saying. I do try to find them cheap whenever I can but if I haven't got the money I still can't buy any. Hubby was made redundant for a while but I suppose he was lucky in the fact he had a stash of underwear before that (I bought it) so didn't have to worry about it...not that he does even when he has money.

not exactly threadbare, but well worn . I am ashamed to say that my hubby does have some holey pants, but he does change them every day. He also tells me about them as though i am the underpant policeman. Why he cant throw them out himself I do not know. I have a pair of green satin Anne Summer pants, that i absolutely love, but they are due for retirement very soon. No holes apart from the essential ones, but they are very old. Also very ashamed to say that I wear mad coloured socks and if they have holes, i will darn them. I have pink ones with sheep on , ones with love hearts on, zebra ones, stripy ones and all sorts of polka dot ones.

Oh wow, a darner! Mum used to darn Dad's socks years ago. I remember the wooden, er, thingy she darned the socks on, it was ace. Doesn't do it anymore though; just buys him some more. She bought him some slippers for Christmas and he STILL hasn't worn them because he seems to think his holey ones still have "some life in them yet." You should see them, they really are BAD!

I suppose I am lucky in the fact I tend to stock up on such items when I am working...so this has helped me now that I am not..if that makes sense.

No, I hate that, and I throw stuff away without telling him sometimes. He would not want me to throw out stuff, but he doesn't miss it when it is gone, so for me it is the only way to get rid of it, really!

I'm gearing myself up to throw my husband's threadbare boxer shorts out in a while. I will find it liberating, I'm sure!

I just answered a similar discussion. I don't like buying underwear, so I have pairs that are over 20 years old! I wouldn't admit that some are torn, but you could definitely see that they are old. I guess it's just 'more' comfortable, the older they get. I think the last new batch I had was not even bought by me. They were bought by my mum!

Probably half the members of MyLot are younger than some of my knickers I'm afraid underwear is always the last thing I think of buying and so long as I don't get run over no one will see it

Haha! I must admit, I've not bought any underwear for a while but it's from M&S and lasts ages so I'm not worried..not yet anyhow!

I had to have a giggle at the title of this discussion as when my daughter came home to live her to save up for ahouse with her fiancee I did his washing and he had thread bare undies and to be honest my husband has one or two pairs that have seen their day, maybe it's a boy thing. I like to buy new underwear as often as i can as it feels good to have new underclothes and it's hygenic too.

Well yes, it could be a boy thing, you might be right there! As for me, recently I did look for some M&S knickers in their "outlet" store that sells them cheaper but I couldn't find any of the range I wear. I've had my bras a fair while too!
