Declaring Bankruptcy

Has anyone declared bankruptcy? How did you go about it? Through a lawyer? Did you lose your house? Any insight you all can give. I don't know if I am at that point yet, but wanted more information. Only respond if in the U.S. because the laws are different everywhere, thanks.

I know t hat you asked for US only responses, and I am in the UK. Can you get debt management schemes in the US? That might be an alternative.

do you have credit counsellors in your area? that is who i would talk to first.
