Triple the budget spent... and still no heads rolling?!?

src: http://tinyurl.com/26sre8h I was reading this with disbelief! For those who are not familiar with YOG, it is the Youth Olympic Games, and it is hosted in Singapore this year. There was much fanfare about the event. With a big budget ($104 Million) originally planned, I was appalled to see that the money spent shot up to close to $4 Million! Read the article, it says it all. What peeved me the most is, the person who is in charge of the budget, see it as "it-is-okay", no-big-deal, nochalant attitude towards this over spending! If it were to happen to any ordinary employee, his butt would be hauled to the office so fast, his head chopped so quick, you would even have time to gasp! Sigh... same country, different set of rules!

I am from the same country as you. Likewise, I was so angry when the news first broke out. Spending three times over-budget is definitely too much. But then again, who can say anything about it?

Yeah... the worst part of it is, watching our hard-earned tax dollars burning up, and nothing is being done to rectify or stem the flow of cash on a wasted cause! Grr~~~!

Should i say, that's a norm?? and singapore is so used to doing all that?? Because it's the same thing for World cup!! Always like to overpay for things, before trying to recover back from us, in some ways or other.. haha And i really cant imagine the committee will be spending so much on food, yet those food turned out like RUBBISH?!?! And even causing food poisoning to the volunteers?? With such a big budget, i'm sure they can do more with the quality of FOOD being SERVED!!

Hello this appears as a universal phenomena, here in india situation is same.. the spend 90% of the budjet in 15 to 20 days before end of financial year ends, i mean before march 31st, bribery and corruption is rampart.. share goes to top officials, ministers, so just imagine the quality of worl!! Thanks for sharing. Welcome always. Cheers. Professor
