Why insurance quote price different from agent to agent?

Recently I just shop around for the home owner insurance. Within the same company, for instance, All State, the quote price is different from agent to agent. One lady agent I asked would give me over $1,000 per year quote price; While I go to another agent, they can quote me with a little bit over $600 per year price. They are all within All State insurance. Why is that? Aren't they suppose to be the same?

I believe that different independent agents receive different discounts from the major carriers depending on the number of clients they provide. Is there a reason you are stuck on All State? I have to carry homeowners insurance on two properties so every year I ask my agent if there are any policies available that can save me money. This year they hooked me up with a company that only writes a limited number of policies in Florida for a short window of time and my timing was good so I'm with them now. It pays to shop around, whether it's with different agents or different companies since the money you save is yours.

I don't know, I just felt strange that with the same company behind them, they would give me something totally different. There is also online quote directly from the All State website, and it would give me something different too.

It is strange, and doesn't seem entirely fair either, does it? I think that, unless you're an insider, there's no way to know the formula or whatever criteria the insurance companies use when setting rates.
