Do you own a decent luggage set?

Ok, so I have a confession to make: Even though I travel quite a lot me and my fiancee do not have a decent set of luggage, but we use these really old bags that are basically falling apart and are very ugly. So I have decided to invest in a decent set now, but luggage is sooo expensive! (even on Ebay since the shipping is so expensive)
So tell me, do you guys have nice luggage? Or do you travel like me, with any old thing you happen to have at home?

Hi,
I don't really have those expensive luggage set for travelling.
I just bought those normal type of luggage and they can be used
for long as long as I takecare of them properly.
I knew about this brand Samsonite for luggage and bags and they are
pretty expensive. I did have one before and it last very long and I still
can remember, this luggage brand is pretty heavy, although without any
loading inside the luggage. The outter part of the luggage is very thick and
I believe it is one of the best brand for luggage for travelling.

Yeah, I am sure you are right. I do take good care of my luggage but I suppose I do tend to stuff it a bit too much when I travel, which makes it easier for it to break I guess. I need to stop that once I get new luggage!

I do not travel a lot however my family owns the cheap luggage you can find at Macys when it is on sale. It is like 5 luggages for $100 when it is on sale. My family uses those and every few years when it breaks, we will buy new ones. However, my sister travels frequently for work and she invested in expensive luggages, the Swiss brand and it is very durable.

Wow, that is a great price indeed! Too bad we do not have Macys where I live! :(

I used to be a backpacker in my younger days. These days I am an independent traveler. I had quite an old looking backpack when I was 18 years old traveling around Europe. For my next trip I bought a new backpack and it lasted my travels for over 12 years worth of trips. Then I bought another backpack that I have used for the travels I have done for the last few years. Sometimes I use a holdall as well as my backpack. On my last trip I took my disabled toddler son and my baby daughter to Canada. I needed to put some of our luggage on their tandem buggy. I had my backpack on my back. I think it is not worth looking rich with a new set of luggage. It is better to look like a seasoned traveler.

Yes, I agree that very posh luggage is probably not a very good idea. It might very easily be stolen at the airport for starters! But new luggage doesn't necessarily have to be very fancy either, I just want something of high quality that will last for many, many years.

Wow, that is one way to do it I guess. But in my case it would get rather expensive since I travel so much. But definitely an interesting suggestion!

I also do alot of traveling and I have pretty nice luggage.....if you watch for sales you can get some very nice luggage on sale at a good department store. Mine are soft...and they have an extention on them so you can get lots of things in them. That way you don't have to take as many bags.

That's a great tip, actually! I didn't even know that luggage goes on sale. So thanks for the suggestion!

i do travel but not all the time, only once in a while.
like you i dont have a set of good luggage, i use only what available bags i have here. Sometimes it's a knapsack, or a gym bag. As long as contents will fit in perfectly im ok with it.
would love to have my own luggage bag though, from where i live, it's not that expensive, but still i cant buy since its not that very important to me, because i dont travel a lot.
hope you can get one soon.

Yes, I know what you mean. This is the reason I don't want to spend too much on luggage either, because I will only use it a few times a year. So it is not something that you will be using every day or anything, then it is a bit more justified to spend a lot of money on it.
You are lucky that luggage is cheap where you live!

Years ago my husband and I invested in some quality luggage and after 22 years he still has his but mine got broken in the airport coming home a couple of years ago. I think they have a lifetime warranty but could not find the paperwork after all those years. but also I have also used very mediocre luggage and its okay but only travel 1-2 times per year. I think if you travel a lot it would be a good investment. I did not look to see where you live but if you are from the states and have a Kohl's store nearby you should check them out. They usually have pretty good sales on luggage and some good brands.

Hmmm, I find luggage to be really cheaply priced here where I live. I just bought a 4 piece luggage set for $40 and I don't think thats expensive at all, I think it's pretty cheap really.
I can remember when luggage was stupidly priced and it cost almost as much for your luggage as for some holidays.
I can remember paying more than $100 for a set of luggage But I find the last few years they have really come down in price.
I'm not talking about cheap stuff either. My last set of luggage I bought was about 15 years ago and I still have them but I just wanted new stuff when I saw how cheap it was, when I went shopping just before I went to Vegas last month.
My luggage should last me even longer now because I can't travel by airplane anymore so I have to drive where ever I go so my luggage won't get thrown around on a plane anymore so it will last me forever now. I can travel by plane anymore because I have problems with my inner ears and eardrums and the last time I flew I blew holes in my eardrums and I had to go to the hospital when I got off the plane, it was so painfull. It took 6 months for the holes to heal and that was with a perscription. So doctors orders are no more planes for me.
Cheers my friend,
Chris

I travel a lot so I have a good suitcase just the size I need so my back doesn´t hurt. I don´t need or want more than one suitcase. I don´t like to carry all my wardrobe and I have learned (by the usual method of trial and error) not to take too many useless things.
Besides my only suitcase, I use a big handbag to take inside the plane. It serves a lot of purposes as it is one of those straw beach bags. I take it to the beach, I go shopping while traveling, I take along snacks when I go sightseeing, I put clothes to change at the plane if I´m going to a place with another climate.
I rather use my money to travel more that use it to have an elegant suitcase parked at home
