i was asked by a friend what my views is about white lies. she asked me whether it is worth to lie. i told her it depends on the situation because as far as i remember in my nursing degree we were taught to think of a greater good and if it needs to lie for a greater good then i would.
what about you?

I accept and endorse your view,if we lie it has to be for the greater good of people at large. As in your profession and while visiting patients who are severely sick.Sometimes the questioned is popped by those suffering as to when they are likely to recover.I feel a small lie saying that you will recover quickly if you are positive and take medication and rest is likely to boost their confidence.Positive and entertaining talk also boosts their morale.I feel there is no harm in doing this.

There are different kinds of situations which would further make it complicating in a multitude of varieties depending on the different kinds of people that you put into those situations.
Some people would be get to understand lies while others might take it too personally when lied to, even when the reason might be for the greater good of those involved.
For me, I avoid lies. I don't like doing that. However, if really necessary, I would augment the harsh truth so that it can be tolerable for those who need to know.
As much as possible, you can make harsh things bearable but, there are times when it is more efficient when one would just tell things straight forward.

I don't think there's anything wrong with lying to someone to spare his or her feelings. For instance, wives are known for asking their husbands, "Do you think I look fat in these clothes?" If the husband is brutally honest, it'll just make the wife feel insecure about her weight -- there's no gain from telling the truth, especially when the wife can look in the mirror to see how she really looks or check her weight on the scale. However, you have to be careful not to lie about big things where the truth really is needed. You wouldn't lie to a person about his or her medical condition, right? That's information the patient really needs to know, even if it's bad news.

I'd rather not say anything. A white lie is still a lie and once discovered that you told a lie, it ruins your integrity. And its hard to keep the lie undiscovered because a time would really come that the truth needs to come out. Once a person tells a lie there is also a tendency to back it up with a string of other lies and it gets more complicated after that. So I think it would be better to keep quiet.

Whatever color it is. Either white, pink, green, purple, etc. It is still a lie. They just call it white lie because they use the lie for a certain purpose like a surprise or to hide something, but since it's a lie that is considered a sin or bad thing to do.
