I prefer to place a star on top of our Christmas Tree. It symbolized the star that guided the wise men into the manger where Jesus the Savior was born. I think no other symbol is better than a star if only for this reason. Of course the real star of Bethlehem is Jesus so the star at the top of my Christmas Tree symbolizes not just the star that led the Wise Men but most all it also symbolizes Jesus, the Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.

We have always had a fairy on the top of our tree.I also have a father christmas that i have had since mine and my husbands first christmas together in this house, so it is over 14 years old now.I think that the angel is a symbol that is a great symbol, just like in all the christmas plays.

At our house now it is a star that sits at the top of our Christmas tree. However, when I was growing up it was always an angel because of the fact that Mother Mary was visited by an angel to tell her that she was chosen to carry Jesus, the Son of God.
That said, I also have a story that my parents always told us in a humourous way about why there was an angel on the top of a Christmas tree.

I put a star on mine too cuz we don't have an angel to put up there. Besides, that star had been used for years now. We're not gonna start using something else now.
