Christmas tip envelopes

Hi fellow myLotters! I was wondering if you have "Christmas tip envelopes" during the Christmas season in your country (By the way, there's no official name for it, the Christmas tip envelope is just a description). Here in the Philippines, workers like the postman, garbage collector, and "barangay tanods" (they make rounds in our local neighborhood and ensure everyone's safety, much like patroling) leave empty envelopes in our gates or mailboxes with "Merry Christmas/Happy New Year" written on the envelopes. We put in some money/tip for their service and they pick it up later. I was excited to hand out the Christmas tip envelope for our postman because he does such a great job and even hands to us mails with our names but the sender made a mistake with the address. He also tries not to leave the mail out there when there's rain (our mailbox is pretty small and it's just a slot on the gate with the box on our end). Just curious if you have this in your country too. Happy Holidays!

I will be giving a tip...to my maintenance man...well my neighbor who does my yard work and my snowblowing...so I got him a gift certificate to one of his favorite restaurants....but he's the only one. I don't have just one mailman....I have several who share the route.

Gift certificate, that's interesting! It's pretty creative. We don't know much about the mailman and garbage collectors though and I think they prefer money, lol In our area, we have one mailman and I think the garbage collectors share the route. Thanks for the response!

In my country it started that way but now they even place a Christmas card inside. No pictures, just a greeting from "your garbage collector". I give tip (and a good one) to the mailman but don“t do it with the garbage people who have no respect for the front of my house during the rest of the year. I feel tips are given for merits.

Thanks for the response! Cool, it's nice that they include a Christmas card inside the envelopes. We also gave a better tip to our mailman. The garbage collectors were confusing. My mom took note of the garbage truck number and there were different garbage collectors who were leaving their envelopes and they're from different trucks. We don't know but they may even be garbage collectors from other neighborhoods.

This is my first time hearing about something like this and I don't know if something like this is done anywhere here. It does sound unique and interesting though. It's a good way to show your appreciation for these workers. For us, we'd just bring the gift to the person to show our appreciation. We never give money though. Most of the time it's poinsettia or candy or some other small gift. It's not as good as money but the people seem to love what we give them.

Thanks for the response! I guess the workers here who do services prefer money, lol Flowers, candies, and other gifts are pretty nice and creative though.
