In the winter months I feel badly for the squirrels and birds. My daughter and put out little bits of food now and then for them. I watch the entire family of squirrels come down out of there little nest in the tree and munch down on the bread or whatever we put out for them. This year there is a baby. How weird is that this time of year? I watch them running along the fence and the limbs. How cute are they? Do you feed the animals in your area?

I like squirrels but I LOVE chipmunks! I have a bad habit of feeding them every summer/fall. They come running down from the back woods, and I put food out for them under the shed. It doesn't take long for them to get it all in their mouth and then they run back up to their home. It's SO cute! Squirrels are OK, but they jump on the bird feeder and knock a lot of the food on the ground (which the deer appreciate).
Overall, I do love watching wildlife! I know we shouldn't feed them, they will just keep coming back and could even become dependent on our food, but I can't help it! I adore them!

There's so many chipmunks around where I live. In the summer and fall, I see so many of them on my walks around the block. They are so cute! I just wanna hug them, lol.
(Side story... I did save a chipmunk from drowning one year -- the poor guy was trapped in a bucket of water and I heard him squeaking so I ran to see what was going on, and saw him trying his best to keep his head above water. I carefully knocked the bucket over and he just stood there, so of course I petted him really quickly lol, then he ran off to the back woods.)

I live in a city named Boise which is frend for 'city of trees'. We are overpopulated with squirrels and i live in the older part of the city called the Northend. The squirrels love it here.

hi celticeagle thats odd come to think of it we do not see any squirrels around here in garden grove Ca.there were some in the last apt complex we lived in along with all sorts of birds.oddly the grounds were lovely with lots of trees flowering shrubs and grass bu the apartments themselves needed repair and were still renting at 1250 dollars a month.
go figure, rents here in 'southern California areout of sight and no wonder ordinary p eople are leaving for other states.I love the climate and tusten where we were is lovely city compared to Garden Grove.here its sprawled out and not particular care is taken with yards and such.In my homestate South Dakota we had both grey and red squirrels and they were so much un to watch. My granddad was so gentle the squirrrles would come down and eat out of his hand. I was not patient enough I guess.

Ya, they are coming here! Darn them! I think that in some areas squirrels are thought of as pests.

I love squirrels very much. They stay in front of my building. Daily I will keep food for them on the compound wall. If I start to watch squirrels I forget myself for some time that much I love them.

I do the same thing. I watch them running through all the trees around here.

We feed the birds...that's all.
Squirrels are cute to watch, but if they happen to get into your garage or attack that will make a complete mess...they can chew through anything.
We used to keep our birdseed in a Rubbermaid container in the garage. Squirrels got into the garage and chewed a whole down through the container.
Squirrels are cute to watch but terrible inside a building.

Hi celti,
With the change in the seasons the birds and other small creatures seem to be facing difficulty but I feel they manage somehow.
We had a pair of rabbits and they had grown large too but one day the small house made for them was broken apart by big dogs and all the rabbits perished. It felt so bad that my wife and my son could not help crying.
Yes, there are some doves that drop some time at the backyard of our house and my wife throws them some edible and every morning they are there hopin to get something to pick up.

What a sweet and compassionate daughter you have! We've done the bird feeders but we've never actually fed the squirrels. Maybe that is something we can think about when we go to replace the bird feeders. I have seen those little corn feeders so maybe we'll get one. I love watching the squirrels in the fall running about hiding nuts. They are just so cute. One of my favorite stories from my childhood is about my grandfather. He used to bring squirrels home with him from work. He walked home from school, for a period, and he would bring them home. Funny little critters.
Namaste-Anora

We only have one cat. That is all we can afford. We do enjoy the squirrels.

I have watched squirrels and I really don't know if I like to watch them or not. I don't see them everyday but I saw them few times before. I like birds and I use to give the food to them.
I was a child when I use to spread the rice in from of my home to watch them come and eat the every seed one by one. I love the way they eat. They put their beak at the right place and with a quick moment. Birds have many things in them which I like.
I want to fly like them but I can't so I only watch them. Once I killed a sparrow and I felt so much guilty for that. Even though I was a child but I felt like crying for doing the sin. I still remember that incident and after that day I never did that again. I love birds and I will never harm them in my life.
