Personally cold anything soothes my throat when it is sore. I can't imagine there being a medical review saying it is wrong. They have always given you cold ice cream and cold jello after having your tonsils removed. So, I think cold water is A okay!

oh yeah, they do that, don't they?
well, it's something that i hear from old people -- take something hot or warm, you have a sore throat. but then if we do put two and two together, drinking cold might even be more beneficial when you have a sore throat!
thanks for sharing what you think.

Personally, I don't like cold water when I have a sore throat. I prefer room temperature or warm water. I find the cold bothers my throat. I don't think there is a medical reason that would prevent you from drinking cold water. I have had sore throat and strep throat many times and have never been told not to drink cold water. You can gargle with warm salt water to help your throat feel better. It is also suppose to aid in the healing process.

For sore-throat sufferers over 4, George Kirkpatrick, M.D., associate professor of family medicine at the University of South Alabama, recommends ice chips. The coldness temporarily numbs a sore throat, and fluids can help prevent the dehydration that can accompany a fever, which may occur during the cold's onset. (Most cold-related fevers are slight, but if the fever persists more than a few days, contact a doctor.) Gargling with warm salt water - about 1/2 teaspoon of salt per glass - also soothes the throat; however, it's difficult for very young children to master this skill. To suppress a cough, Frank Witter, M.D., an obstetrical clnical pharmacologist and associate professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center, suggests this homemade syrup: 1 tablespoon of lemon juice mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey. The honey coats the throat, and the lemon makes it more palatable. (Don't give honey to babies under 1 year old.)

I feel cold water during bouts of sore throat are a strict no no..This just aggravates the bacterial infection in the throat and helps in no way.
Try having a glass of hot(as hot as you can bear)early in the morning, taking a sip at a time, like you sip Tea or Coffee. There won't be any sore throat to worry about.

No I don't know of any medical ones but know that any thing cold on a sore throat is well used. Kids getting tonsills out are given ice ice cream and cold jelly. I even tell my kids to dring cold water when they have a sore or raspy throat. It seems to work on them
