This is Buster. He came to live with us on Saturday. He's good with cats, and the cats seem to be OK with him so far. He's a yellow Labrador mix, and just about the calmest dog I have ever seen. He's also 9 1/2, so I'm afraid he won't be with us a lot of years. He's a big boy, house trained, loves cat food (we had to gate it off), and he's already a mama's boy. He sleeps by my bed, and only listens to me. lol
Why are we taking on a dog right now with everything else that's been going on? Well for one thing, the kids miss having a dog, and they were really happy to get him. Hopefully he will be a stress reducer for them in the next year.
Now I just need to shove that darn paper in R's face and get him to sign...
Isn't Buster a handsome boy?

Hello Dawn,
One thing is for sure, He's going to BUST to who ever and what ever is threatening your family. but of course, he can't bust himself alone out of the flea problem, which is something you can handle
It's true that dogs are stress relievers. I wish i could pay a visit with my dog, because i want her(jolen) to have puppies
, am sure he's handsome and a strong Buster...2 people like this

Buster looks like he's a good boy.
I'd like to think older dogs are more... well, homely. And adorable lethargic. Nothing better than having a dog just lazing around, and such. You have a couple of years with him, and make the most of it.
Pets can be very therapeutic. I don't know where I'll be without our dogs... We have five, you see, and sometimes, I end up playing with them more than I do my homework. Haha.

Buster is so cute. And he knows how to smile for the camera, too!!! Looks like you're going to have to invest in a good doggie hair brush. He is a pretty color too. I'm glad that he's getting along with the cats. I have had cats and dogs together for years. Usually the cats were introduced as kittens and I think they thought the dog was their mother.

Two of my cats have been around dogs, one I wasn't sure, the fourth I knew hadn't been. But they all seem just fine...

He looks like a very sweet dog. Congrats to your family. I definately agree that a pet can be a stress reducer for the children. I have 5 kids and we have 5 dogs. Of course the dogs are not all theirs, but to watch the kids sit and pet the dogs when they have had a bad day and they seem to go into their own little world and then feel better. Good luck and enjoy.

If I had a dog I'd have a dog just like Buster and yes, he IS a VERY handsome boy. I can tell just by looking at that adorable face that he's going to give you all so much love...and you will give it back in equal measure, I'm sure.
How I adore animals. They give us so much joy don't they?

Hi Buster and welcome, you, lucky boy!
Having a new home at 9 1/2 is not easy for a dog. I'm glad to hear that he adjusted himself to the new family. What's his story? How did he ended up in a cats lovers' family?
I'm curious how did the cats meet him. The way I know cats they are not too pleased to welcome a new member of the family. Especially if the new comer is a dog.

He had a good home, but he and his owner were attacked by pit bulls. She was injured badly enough that she couldn't care for him any more. He was put in a foster home, and the foster mom had cats. My cats were very wary at first, but now they seem fine with him.

That would drive me nuts, but then I'm also not home during the day to train a dog.

I think bringing Buster in to the household is a great idea, and he's a handsome boy. Who said dogs and cats don't get along? And I agree with your reasoning for bringing him in. Besides he probably needed a great home... Now, R needs to find a new home...time's running out.

Sometimes a pet can help with a lot of things. Just their presence can bring some peace to a home. I know that my dogs are getting old and will lose them some day. I will probably get a new one to replace them. I have to go find Buster's picture now.

Like you said, Buster will be good to help reduce stress. Labs are often used as therapy dogs. Wish you could train him to shove the paper in R's face.

Awwww . . . and that seems to be the perfect name for him - he looks like a "Buster"! A stress reducer for the kids . . . maybe for you too. I know you love cats, but as a dog person myself, I think doggies are such wonderful companions (ok, maybe not "all" of the them", my MIL's pomeranian hides under her bed and growls at everyone). And sounds like Buster is already attached to you - gotta love that! Where did he come to live with y'all? He may be sort of up there in age, but the important part is gonna live the rest of his life comfortably where his family loves him. Maybe you can train Buster to give R the paper and a pen . . . get him to sign with those puppy dog eyes! Hee hee.

I was looking online, found this dog, Lily, good with cats and kids. When I contacted the rescue that had Lily, they didn't have her any more, but they did have Buster. so they did a "home inspection", interviewed us, and then we went out to the rescue and got him.

Yes, Buster is such a handsome boy! And he is lucky, too. Usually older dogs can't find a new home too soon, but he's happy that he found your family. Who was the one who chosed him? Was it you? Is that why he's "mama's boy"?
You are also lucky that he gets along well with the cats. Maybe he had cats at his previous family, do you know if it is so?

The rescue lady thought he would be perfect for us, and so we went to meet him...
Yeah older animals are harder to adopt out.

Buster might end up being more your dog then your kids but still be attached to them too. It's good that Buster is so good natured and gets a long with your cats. I had a dog before that got a long with everything . We had a bird the same time as him and outside cats and the bird would ride on his back and he would let it and would lay with the cats outside and play with them. He got a long with all animals which I thought was very cool. He was a chihuahua. He was a very sweet dog.

It's funny too, the cats seem to want to be where he is. Not sure if they're keeping an eye on him or what. Now that he's sleeping at the foot of my bed, the cats are sleeping with me more too.
