Hello, I am looking for insurance on my baby that will be born shortly. Can he be on a plan by himself? How much I am going to pay? Who is the best Insurance Company? Hopefully U moms can help me!

What I did when my son was born was to get an insurance broker to shop through plans for me. When he had done that, I chose the plan that I thought was going to be the best for my son. Now, I wouldn't take the option of doing an individual plan on a little one if there is a chance that he could be added to a plan that either parent has at work because though the group plans like this might be more expensive, they also cover a lot more than individual plans tend to cover.

My boyfriend can get insurance through his work but I didn't know how much it would cost and if we can get it cheaper through someone else. I have insurance now that I am not really fond of that I got through my employer.

The best way to find out is to shop around. You can find some information online or you could even look for and insurance broker, they may be able to help you as they may know your best option. They have just changed that there are no pre-exsisting conditions for children under 19 which is great as my daughter was a preemie and the first time I had to get her insurance that was a problem. She is three now and I have her one a CIGNA plan and I like it just fine. The prices are different depending on if you have a girl or boy. I pay $102 a month for a plan with a $3000 deductable, but they did just change that all well baby visits are covered 100% with no co pay or deductable again another good change. Look around and get some price quotes you should be able to call any of the companies directly and ask them what you will need to do to get your child covered. Some companies may have better coverage in that area than they do in my area, if you know what doctor you are wanting to use for your child you could even as them what insurances that they take and they are preferred providers for. My daughter is on a plan by herself so that shouldn't be a problem. The best thing to do is shop around.
