Attempting, yet again, to get back into photography as a business.

I've had a little luck over the years to get some commercial business and make a little bit of money. It hasn't been easy for me as people just don't want to pay for photography when it's getting so much easier to use digital cameras. However, I do have a website with a portfolio of my work, so I'm not jumping blindly back into this line of work. The weather certainly doesn't help for outdoor photography, if it did, I'm sure I could get some work. I'm sure that I need more detail on my site, not to mention a site that's not one of those free ones with sponsored ads on them. I'm trying to get people to advertise on my site so I can go and purchase a domain name in order to have a more professional looking site and hopefully get more business. What I really want to do is to upgrade my camera again. I've gotten several recommendations from people, but I'd like to stick with the Canon brand, as that's all I've used in the past 7 years. Hopefully, in the coming months, I'll have some time to just head out and do some photography on my own time, so I can post more work on my site. It wont be easy, but maybe I can get into wedding photography, something that I know pays well and would help me expand on what I already know how to do. I take photos when I do my landscaping, so that helps, most of the work is for residential clients, but there have been some commercial ones that I've gotten decent photos for. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get this going sooner rather than later, it would really help me in the long run.

What kind of Canon camera do you have? I had (have, but my father's borrowing it) a 30D, but before Christmas I upgraded to a 7D and I'm really pleased with it. Of course, I'd like something even bigger and more expensieve but as I don't know half of what it can do yet I've got a plan to read the manual very carefully during this summer :-)

I have a friend whom I met on another site who has done what you are doing. I think her key entry on getting known though is that she has kids. She does photo shoots of them to showcase what she can do and then sells reasonable packages to families who have kids the same age. Another good seller would probably be pet photography. I know it takes more than just luck, but I would say "good luck". Again, on another site a couple of people I know have put up photo blogs.
