So yesterday the jinx was finally broken. It seems that on Sunday mornings when I'm at the adoption center, we do fewer adoptions that on Saturday when I am usually not there. Yesterday we did 5 while I was there, two sisters together who were really bonded, a cat that had been brought back after 3 years of living in a garage, and an older cat with no teeth. Oh yes, and Jody, a beatiful Maine c**n (bad word lol).
The two sisters had been brought in by a guy who couldn't keep them. One was pregnant for sure, and the other one maybe was. We spayed them both (sorry, but too many kittens coming). Two sweet medium hair tabbys, and we got lucky. Somebody walked in and wanted a pair.
Now the cat who had been living in a gargage, well! Why would you adopt a cat, and leave it in a garage for 3 years?
She must have been handled by somebody though, she was really sweet. But can you imagine somebody would actually have the nerve to come straight out and say she was kept in a garage all that time?
The toothless cat had just come in the day before. She was really sweet too, but when the shelter got her, her mouth was just a mess, so they had all her teeth pulled. The director of the shelter wanted to euthanize her, because after all "who would want a toothless cat?" But somebody came in and fell in love with her right away, so their efforts were not in vain.
Jody's been with us a couple of months. No idea why she stuck around for so long. She's a beautiful cat, and very sweet. So glad to see her go to a good home.
Other than that, we took pictures of the new arrivals to post on PetFinders.

A very busy and productive day. You never know who would want a toothless cat. I wish they would go ahead and pull all of Creamery's teeth. They just keep flaring up and we have them pulled tow or three at a time.

How do they diagnose stomatitis? I think my Tiger and Creamery both have it, from talking to Elic here online.

Why do people get pets and then not take care of them properly? I don't know but I've heard of some that I'd like to report to the pet police. Some people can just be so stupid and without a lick of common sense. The cat I have now (Allie) I adopted from a shelter. Her previous owner had her and realized he was allergic to cat hair/dander. So he shaved her!!!
Totally and 100% shaved with even her whiskers cut off. The shelter people said she was a mess with razor burns and personality just all beat down. Before they could list her for adoption they had to treat all of her skin injuries and let the hair grow out a bit. I adopted her just as the wounds had healed and she had only about 1/4" of hair. She has subsequently come out of her depression and is now one of the most lovable cats I've ever had with a beautiful medium length white coat.
I'm glad that you all had such a good day at the adoption center. I'd like to see more no-kill shelters in the communities. When I was younger, I always wished I'd had enough money to open an 'animal farm'. I wanted to be able to save 'em all. I just know you have a rewarding and satisfying job at your center. I envy you.

Yup. Some kind of a blade. Don't know if he used an electric shaver or a safety razon. But they had to use topical skin medication to ease her burn pain and prevent infection. She was not a happy camper and it took a year for her to let me hold her for any length of time. She was fearful and I understood so I just kept working with her. She still doesn't invite a 'holding' but will let me pick her up for a short time; maybe 5 minutes at a time and then she wants down. The only times she will stay longer is when I'm brushing her. She likes that.

people love all sorts of cats if they are allowed to find one... the main issue I have with most shelters in our areas is they made the rules so strict it is hard to adopt..our local shelter refused to give me back my cat my neice was gonna adopted him back for me.. but they put him down so when she returned with the 75$ they euthanzied him claiming he was a vicious biter.. he was a 6 week old kitten the size of a 6 month old cat, just weaned he loved bite never drew blood and the cat himself had a pet chipmunk.. he was not viscious at all since then I lost faith in our local shelters they also were in cahoots with peta members who were paying people to steal my farm cats so they could put them down.. still hate those people. Glad to hear your shelter is helping them find good homes.. and the great stories about the cats being adopted and going to new homes. Someday I would not mind running a retirement like farm for unadoptable ferals.. I have a way with wild animals.. So feral for me is not as feral to others..

We had some sickos affiliated with Peta who were talking people into stealing my pets, making up excuses to put them down, and they were sick enough to get some fosters and former fosters involved.. Every since then I have never trusted our local Humane Society at all.. they were targeting alot of people around town. So I tell people never take your pets there if you can help it...find them a good home another way just adopt only if you can.. I know there are many no kill shelters and other humane society shelters that still have honest practices.. But not in three counties of Wisconsin.. Just to give you an update.. The Local Human Society has cleaned out the Peta members, a friend of mine became their president and has really made many improvements...

PETA? Isn't that totally contrary to what the organization is supposed to stand for?

Yeah dawny! You are so my Hero! I wish I could take them all
home! If I dared to volunteer that's exactly what would happen
and I would have hell to pay! One because my cat Luna or (Lunatic)
as he is also called would never accept another cat since he
barely accepts his brother, Star and two because the bf barely
accepts either one of them! He has finally taken up a "sort
of weird bond with Luna", which is weird enough since Luna used
to hiss and growl at him and now "loves his daddy" (why the phuck
I don't even know) since his "Mama" (which he pronounces loud
and clear to freak anyone that hears it) doesn't even feel the
same way about!

That sounds like a wonderful day at the adoption center. You know, we have four pets of our own and lately it seems like every time that we turn around there is someone that is offering one of their pets to us. We can't handle another pet right now because the house is just not big enough for two adults, two children, two (or three) cats and two (or three dogs). I really do love animals and if I had space I would certainly take another in, but I would want to be fair to them. For that reason, who would keep their can in a garage unless they were using their pet solely as a mouser?

A very good day and let's hope all the cats and their friends are happy together. Now, we only have a bazillion to go. I hate people who don't take care of their furry friends. I don't know how you (or my sister) do it. I'd be bringing every stray home and then I'd get arrested for having too many animals. I'm still thinking about getting a siamese from the shelter...I just haven't gone over, because I know I'd want to bring them all home.

My guess is that Garage Kitty's person was told by their person that they couldn't keep the cat in the house.
As for Jody hanging around so long, she was waiting for the right person.

Let's hope it was a heated garage, at least, with a carpeted area for her, maybe an old easy chair...

I wish I could find another c**n cat here. They are one of my favorite cat types. Our sdoption center here just never seems to have one. I wonder what had happened to the cat that had all its teeth out. And aren't most garages made of cement. COLD! Poor kitty! I wish I had an old ranch house out in the toolies somewhere and we could have all the cats we wanted.

Ahh, I just adore them. We had one when my daughter was small. Named him Colby Connor. Great animal! One of the best I ever had. Don't get me started.

replace the asterisks with two o's...
It's an animal, but also a racial slur related to black people.

Oh yes, I had read this word. It is not a word that is used here. Some words should die and not be passed on to the next generation, don't you think?

It is nice that you volenteer at an animal adoption center to start with! I am happy all those cats were adopted! Especailly the toothless cat who was spared then adopted! So many animals who should get a second chance never do! I love hearing stories like that! It reminds me of the Pit Bulls Michael Vick had in his dog fighting kennel. PETA wanted them all put down! A judge didn't let that happen! They were all sent to Pit Bull rescues and all turned out fine! Just shows every animal and human deserves a second chance!
