Do you suit hats? Are you the kind of person that has to wear a hat if it's windy and throwing it down with rain, or do you prefer a brolly (umbrella) instead? I possess one hat but wear it only when it's very cold.
There has been a lot of talk about hats lately, namely Princess Beatrice's disaster at the Royal Wedding. At least she could put it on ebay and raise money for charity. Most of us mortals are stuck with hat "mistakes."
Mum told me on the telephone the other day about her latest hat. Now, she does wear a "Mr Hanky" hat (the colour of poo, hence the name) for riding her bike in poor weather BUT she says she "looks like a nutter" if she wears a winter hat with summer clothing..so she bought another one.
"What's it like?" I asked.
It's like a trilby!" she replied.
I laughed. "What do you mean, a trilby?"
"It just looks like a canvas trilby...or a very big pork pie!"
"What colour is it?"
"It's multi-coloured..got lilac flowers on it."
She then mentioned loads more colours too numerous for me to remember!
"I had to get large because my head is big. I don't know if it suits me or not because the mirror in Millett's isn't very good and I just told the salesman.."that'll do!" and bought it.."
"How much?"
"4 quid!"
I am now dying to see Mum in this hat. She told me that she looks like she's got "6 months to live" if her hair gets wet, hence the purchase.
When I see her next I shall endeavour to take a photograph!

And we would like to see that picture too, if Mom doesn't mind.. .:)
Hi Janey... Nice to read from you... Hats!!! They have been my fascination since I have been a kid... In India, they hardly wear the kind of hats they wear in England... Here we know only the Cricket Cap... If one dares to wear something different they will laugh... :(
I don't know the names but here are a few that I like... Winston Churchill's Hat!! The Hat worn by Jeremy Brett when he played Sherlock Holmes... Amazing hat... Nothing can surpass that one... English Ladies look great in hats... I have seen many pictures... A hat adds something to your beauty, for sure... have a good day!!

Oh yes, watching a match at Lord's is something that any Cricket fan will love to do... It is the Home for Cricket- Lord's!!!!
So it is called Trilby- Churchill's hat??? I really don't know any type of them.. While watching 3 stooges the other day, I heard the character describing his hat as, 'Derby', I guess that is a type of hat too...
I would love to watch mom's pic in the new hat... End of May isn't that far, is it??? Please let me know, when you update that here... :) Have a nice day!

Aaah, yes, that marvellous obsession of yours..cricket! I quite like the sport myself, actually. I've never been to a cricket match though but would like to, especially somewhere like Lords's. It looks awesome!
I used to have a hat a bit like Winston Churchill's. If his was a trilby, mine was too lol. I lost it on a windy day in Blackpool when I came back from a work's Christmas party (years ago) and I was a bit tipsy I am afraid, so I couldn't be bothered running after the hat!
Yes, I promise that I will endeavour to take a pic of Mum in her new hat and the first place it will go is right here on MyLot.
Gonna have to wait until the end of May though. Hope you can wait that long!

I hardly wear a hat throughout the year, even though the hard winter. Most people put on hats for shutting out the sunlight and keeping out the cold. However a few people don't think so,they, like Princess Beatrice, wear hat for the purpose of being in the limelight ,show off and out of the ordinary.

Princess Beatrice was certainly in the limelight with THAT hat lol. At least it's being auctioned off on ebay for charity, which is a great idea. Hope it raises lots of cash.

I'm not a big fan of wind chill either. I had to wear my hat in December because it was unusually cold and it certainly helped in warming me up, wearing my woolly hat.

Hats are not fashionable here in Canada. Well not the type of hat im thinking about. Oh we do wear tukes in the winter or hoodies but no real hats like I saw at the wedding. They do sell them but I never see anyone actually wearing one in the summer. I guess they all do like me. I buy a hat that I find pretty. Those with a large rim (sorry I dont know the name of hats) its a fake straw hat. I have another one in black. They are in their boxes and I sometimes take them out, try them on and then put them back. Most people would look at me in a funny way if I were to wear a hat to go out!!
Now, if I were to wear a baseball hat.....oh well thats ok!!!!lol
I wish hats were fashionable, then I could have a bad hair day and still go out!!

I used to wear different types of hats years ago. Now I only wear baseball caps when it's raining or if it's too sunny out. I see some people wearing what I call the A-rod hat. After Alex Rodriguez started wearing a fedora, I started seeing lots of people wearing them. I think they're cool but I am not much of a hat person.

In the 80s I wore a proper black trilby hat and used to customize it with tinsel at Christmas! I was most upset when it blew off my head on my way home from a night out, never to be seen again!
I did live in Blackpool so I suppose I should've known!

I don't wear hats because they'll destroy my perfect hairstyle.XD

I know what you mean, hats tend to flatten hair and it's not a good look is it?

I wear knit or crochet hats in the winter and that is about it. I do not even like those it feels as if my head is being squeezed. I do not do umbrella either. I just let myself get soaked, hair and all. I think it will be fun to see a picture of your mom's new hat.

Preferably on her head lol. I will do my best to get a pic at the end of the month when I next see her.
Yes, I'm the same as you, I tend to get my hair wet rather than wear a hat or a hood. Rain is supposed to be good for the hair so I don't mind getting that wet...it's the rest of me I hate getting soaked!

My Mum is short too and her head looks small but isn't.
Maybe it's the shape of it, I don't know but it's rare she looks good in a hat.
She has the same problem you do. She will wear a hat so her hair doesn't get wet, then, she takes it off, only to find her hair has stuck to her head!

I have a woolly hat with three bobbles on the back, all of different sizes..so it sits on my head like a tea cosey. I like it BUT it makes my head itch if worn for any length of time!

I do own a great deal of hats and wear some of them from time to time. I must admit none of mine are like the ones we saw on TV though, lol.. Would not wear any like that.
I do have a great deal of sporty ones in which, depending on my mood I will wear to sport along with an outfit. But usually as a casual look, never for a decked out dressy type look.
I have very long hair and I do like the way they look when I wear them. I also enjoy wearing some wintery type ones because it gets so cold here.
I would love to see your mums picture, she sounds so cute in a great deal of your discussions.

You MUST remind me to take a photo of her when I see her at the end of this month. The plan is to pick her up and bring her back here for the Bank Holiday weekend...with or without the hat lol.
