Well, it wasn't actually as a result of anything going on in her kitchen, thankfully.
Apparently, there are some policemen who have offices above the school and one of them burnt his toast, setting off the fire alarm.
Mum and her staff were told to get out of the kitchen and to stand outside in the freezing cold car park, awaiting the firemen.
Once they arrived Mum was given permission to check her cakes as she was frightened of burning them (how ironic) lol.
They were fine.
What annoyed her, however, were the very people who set the fire alarm off (the policemen) were sat there eating their burnt toast and didn't bother coming outside with the rest.
One rule for Mum's staff and another for the police.
'Ain't it always the same?
You had a fire alarm go off lately?

All people were the victim of a false alarm except from the policemen.Didn't the policemen who set off false alarm bear the blame? After the accident, the policemen sat there eating their burnt toast as if nothing had happened. Was there the double standard about carrying out rule?

It is a double standard, you're right. Because the firemen are in uniform (like the police) I guess they stand together. However, if it had been Mum carrying on working in her kitchen they would not be as lenient with her, believe me.

Funnily enough i was called into work twice last night to deal with false alarms. The Fire Brigade think that an insect got into a sensor. I am the primary keyholder so i had to go. It's two miles each way. I went in at 12.15 and again at 1.40. All is well now but i am quite tired. We had 24 people sleeping there last night and despite a fire engine, flashing lights and fireman everywhere, not a soul was disturbed. That's what worried me the most. The alarms went off at the control centre but not in the home itself. We got advice from the engineers this morning and then I was able to enjoy my day off. We went to Stonehenge and then to Jane Austen's house.

I love Stonehenge!
I haven't been near it on foot but on a coach with Mum and the driver went on to take us around some gorgeous villages in the area, including a gaff where Sting lives when he's over here. Thatched roof and all that. It was in 2003 when we had a really hot spell and I love the area of the New Forest, etc, as well. We actually stayed in Bournemouth, another place I really like.
Could do with some of that weather up here right now. It's so cold!
It's amazing what people can sleep through isn't it?

I imagine a certain number of police have to remain in the building to cover emergencies, unless it's falling down around their ears. It seems a bit unfair though, they could at least have handed out toast to make up for it!
A place i was staying for a course recently had a fire sensor right above where their tractor was parked, and every time the alarm went off it was because someone had started up the tractor.

Haha! Some of the properties down here are rented so have to comply with fire regulations. Therefore fire extinguishers and smoke alarms are installed as a matter of course. The new tenents next door don't seem to be using the grill as it's normally that that sets the smoke alarm off!

Back in December when my boyfriend and I were in TN with one of his shows for two months, we stayed in one of the post graduate dorms. One morning at 4am the entire dorm alarms went off which of course woke us up. Well being 4am and me in a nighty was not a good thing and it was chilly. lol
Anyways I grabbed some PJ bottoms and my coat and out the door we all went, no chance to get keys because we were hearing pounding on all doors that we had to get out.
So while we stood outside for 1 hour 30 minutes in the cold they finally came out to tell us one of the residents was making breakfast and fell asleep.
Luckily the building is well monitored it set off the alarm so quick and the firemen came quickly enough where it was only a fire stove burning and not a full room.
I can sympathize with your mum because I too was outside so cold wondering what was the deal, though it did not appear to be a major fire of any sort. So maybe they stayed and had breakfast there too.

Oh my, outside in your nighy and jim-jam bottoms for an hour and a half. NOT GOOD my friend..NOT GOOD!!
It's never red hot when that happens is it?
Every time I've been outside for a fire drill it's ALWAYS been freezing cold. The only highlight is seeing the firemen turn up, armed with hoses they don't have to use.
Haha!
