Out Of Body Experiences  

I think I began to have one twice. I was in my bed (both times - years apart) and as I was drifting in and out of sleep I started to feel paralyzed. I was lying there with my eyes open but I couldn't move the rest of my body. I could think but I was foggy and I was in a complete panic. I wasn't able to yell out. I tried to lift my arm up and I strained but couldn't. I tried the same thing with my legs and I couldn't move them either, but I could look around my room, see outside of my window and look down at my bed sheets. Finally I would snap out of it, terrorized and sit up in bed, wide awake. Then as I fell back asleep it would always happen for a second time and I'd have to go through all of that again.

When I woke up for the second time I would just lie there scared of going back to sleep and I would be up for an hour trying to keep myself awake. If I did fall asleep I would jolt myself wide awake out of fear but I always was able to go back to sleep for good.

I've had many life-like dreams before but in these two instances I honestly can't tell you if I was 100% asleep or if I was in and out. In fact I haven't had one of those dreams in like 6 years. Oh and I remember trying to sit up and get out of bed - like straining without trying. Strange huh?! And ironically I had a Time Life book about OBEs when I was young and I tried to do them myself with no luck. I don't know why I was so scared - it was uncontrollable fear.

Ive had no experiances with astral projection, though i have tried multiple times. I think it would be really good if i ever attained it, but i cant relax to the deep-level needed to actually project out of the body.

I think its possible though, many people have done it. I personally try the rope method, which hurt my mind and gave me a headache halfway.

i dont think that you can have one that you bring on yourself.when my dad had a heart attack he said he had one and he described graphically what he saw.our son was drawuing a picture of what he thought heaven looked like and it was almost identical to what my dad described.my dad said he was sent back because there was no one there to meet him.our son,who had no knowledge of what my dad said told me that my dad had been sent back because he was not there to meet him.our son sadly died in feb 2005.when he was little he had an operation and he said that at one point he was looking down on the doctor performing the procedure.spooky.

I have not ever had an out of body experience but have read about them. I think there are logical explainations such as early childhood experiences. For example, coming to the bright light is basically the birth experience as you travel through darkenss to the light. Flying could be from having a parent toss you into the air as a baby. We retain ALL of our life experiences someplace in the recesses of our minds.

I think I experienced this a couple of times, but it was not something I was looking for or did in purpose. The last time was few years ago. I woke up, but I could not move. I was laying on my tummy, and felt my back very very cold all over. I knew I was not breathing and I wanted to move. Then, I saw myself laying there in bed, not moving, and I new I had to go back. So then I could breath and finally move. It was a very scary experience, and really I am not looking forward to go through that again.

Only once, many many moons ago, and I was under the influence so don't know whether that counts. I was looking down at myself and my boyfriend sleeping in bed. It seemed so real and felt like it went on for ever. Don't think it is something I would like to experience again.

To have an out of body experience you should try to get to the hypnogogic state, or the state between wakefullness and sleep. Try to remain conscious as you enter this state. When you successfully enter this state you will notice that you are actively dreaming. When this happens you can concentrate on the ringing inside your ears. Try to increase the pitch of it to a point where you cannot bear to hear it anymore, at which point, when you feel the time is right, you make a mental effort to move out of phase with your physical body.
