Hi jacklintan This girl loves to swim and do so every August when I go to Arkansas. I have scuba dived and snorkeled there. I can't say I am a pro nor have I have I been kissed by a mermaid yet, lol.. I hope not because you see though I am a good swimmer I may panic and drown. It is really neat out in Arkansas where we get to go out into the rivers and oceans and swim like fish each and every day while there.

Nope I haven't. It kinda scares me though, looking at people doing it. I actually can't swim and have this fear of drowning . ANyway my friends have promised to teach me to swim though so hopefully I'll learn it by this Summer. And good luck for your scuba diving lessons. If you somehow get to meet a merman don't forget to take a picture

I haven't ever tried scuba driving however I love to go snorkeling around a coral reef when in a tropical location. I adore seeing brightly colorful fish in the ocean. The first time I snorkeled I was at Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I snorkeled with black tipped sharks and sting rays in French Polynesia. In Belize I snorkeled with nurse sharks and sting rays. If I was going to do a scuba driving course I would choose to do it in the Bay Islands in Central America. It lovely be lovely to learn how to dive in the Caribbean Sea. Good luck with your scuba diving course.

hi dear. Thank you for being the first to reply my discussion. I am still sitting down here at my laptop, checking on if anyone is replying this. hehehe! I snockeled before in some islands in Malaysia but I dont quite like it coz I couldn't get deeper into the sea. I hope I can see more corals and nice fishes and get the feel of a diver too! Smashing! sharks and sting rays, I have to say, it's unbelievable beautiful sea animals. Wont they bite? lol

Hi Jacklintan. I did a scuba diving course with my boyfriend in Egypt last summer and it was definitely worth it! We saw blue spotted string rays, lion fish, turtles, baby sharks, octopus, jellyfish, lots of different coloured corals and fish in every colour possible! The course we did was the Open Water Diver with SSI, but I think the courses are pretty similar through all organisations. For us, we were given a textbook to read (it wasn't very big or complicated), which supported things we were taught during the day, like the names and jobs of each piece of equipment. The skills we had to learn were a bit scary at first, but they got easier. We had to practice clearing water from our masks (you just tilt your head back, push the top of the mask into your forehead and blow out through your nose), buoyancy control (inflating and deflating the jacket in order to make us sink/rise/stay level) and what to do if you run out of air (you keep breathing out slowly while your "buddy" passes you his spare regulator). The hardest thing for me, was practicing taking the mask off and putting it back on underwater. No one else really struggled, but it really confused me at first, since the water tries to go up your nose if you forget to breathe out. I got used to it though! The important thing to remember is that everyone finds different things easy/hard. So for my boyfriend, he couldn't understand why I found taking the mask off, but for him, he found taking the weight belt off and putting it back on hard. The teacher will know and understand all this though, so don't be nervous! It's definitely good fun, congratulations on taking the first step to becoming a diver!
