I had seen my doctor last month and she told me she felt I should take a sleep apnea test. I immediately had issues with this. First of all I have weird sleep habits that run in cycles. I can't control them. SO what if I set up there all night and don't sleep at all. I still will probably have to pay for my stay and the equipment and all now matter how many times I have to do it. That is another thing I need to call Medicare and see what they pay and if they even do pay part of a sleep apnea test. So I get the referral call from the hospital. Ofcourse the lady called in the morning when I was asleep so I missed her call. Luckily my daugher took a message. (That doesn't always happen.) I called her back after talking to my doctor again and her giving me a pep talk on why I really need to take it. I don't get a call back from the referral. I called again tonight. My doctor doesn't want to see me again until I have had the test. Has anyone had one? Did you sleep? What happens if you don't sleep?

I have no idea what Medicare is? Here health treatment is free for all, they tested me but found that the sleep apnea was too mild to require a CPAP machine so they suggested a mouth splint, which I have not employed since I no longer seem to suffer from the problem so much

Oh, I just looked up Medicare, no our systems works differently not linked to insurance companies, so the money goes to medical establishments not rich insurance companies, which is why equivalent medical treatment here is provided at a fraction of the cost of the same there

hi celticeagle I didnt have a sleep apnea test buz my husband had one done and he could sleep perfectly in the sleep laboratory. It was two nights (from Friday to Saturday and then from Sunday to Monday again) and they found out he really had apnea problems and they already gave him a mask in the sleep laboratory and this mask works wonders. He sleeps much better now and is much more alert during daytime.

I have heard that these are important to help diagnose a number of problems someone might be having. But if you are not sleeping like you should, especially going thru times where you are not sleeping, it could be Stress or any number of things going on causing you to not want to sleep. I thought Sleep apnea tests were for people who want to sleep a lot?
Your problems could also be from Medication or other illness or diagnosis going on as well. Are you depressed, anxious, stressed, or just feeling drained? I guess if there is a good need for them to want to do this Test and it is covered mostly from your insurance I would say go for it and hope for the Best from there.

I think it is stress most of the time. I am very sensitive to stress. The test is to see if people are not breathing during sleep. The doctor said, and I have heard this before, that people with this can quit breathing up to 100 times in an hour! I have severe depression with panic attacks. I am not sure my insurance will pay for it and will find all that out soon.

What is that test all about?
For what I know, Sleep Apnea is "absence of breathing", may be for a second or so. So I think, we just have to ask those who we sleep with if they noticed you not breathing when sleeping.

It is done to see if you quite breathing while sleeping. Some people with it are said to quit breathing 100 times an hour. Scarey.

I had one. I did sleep but I don't think I slept like I did at home. They put you in a very comfortable room...like a bedroom in a house. You can take stuff with you too...books..computer..whatever. They have TV in there. It is odd being hooked up to all that stuff. That is the thing that I thought would keep me from sleeping. Maybe you could stay up for an extended period of time so you will be super tired.

Sometimes I don't go to sleep until 5 or 6 in the morning. Have evening stayed up later. And if I have to pay all this money and then I don't sleep I won't be real happy.
