Ok so last week my toilet seat broke and so I bought a new one. A lovely gorgeous purple coloured one but the problem is that when I was cleaning the toilet with the special toilet wipes I love to use, some of the dye from the toilet seat came off on the cloth. Oh no I thought, so I went off to the store and bought some other ones that I thought would do the job without removing the colour from the seat. Unfortunately it again has done the same thing.
Does anyone know of something I could use that would remove the germs but not the colour from my lovely purple toilet seat that I love so much!!!?

Go to a store that offers eco friendly products, and most of those products are free of harsh chemicals and they might be safer for your new toilet
eco friendly cleaning products might be best for a colored toilet, also be sure to tell the sales person that you have a colored toilet and ask if the product will be safe to use.
Happy cleaning maybe next time you'll find a good safe product.

Hi there apples
Yes I have thought of that, I just thought that there might be some sort of concoction someone might know of that I could maybe make at home. I know that the eco friendly products are ideal for this sort of thing but they are not so friendly on the wallet hahaha
Thanks for the advice and your response

Is there a walmart in the UK? if there is you can buy eco friendly products for a low price there
But if you don't have walmart there you can brows some online stores and find some low cost eco friendly cleaning products also you can research safe ingredients to use at home products that you can make at home.

I hate to ask, but since it has artificial coloring(?), does it have flavor as well?
Ugh, forget that!
Salt is known to fix many dyes. You could try taking the seat off again and soaking it in hot, salty water for a time - perhaps in the bath but inside a plastic bag so that you don't accidentally color the bath too!

Hi ya petersum
Eww you had to ask and to be honest, I couldn't tell you and for the very good reason that I haven't actually tasted it!!!!!
I wouldn't mind having a purple bath too that would be quite funky hahaha
Thanks for the tip and your response

Is it hand painted? I am sure that the colour ought not to come off. Do you all have purple bottoms? LOL. If it is a mass produced one I would contact whoever you brought it from and ask their advice about cleaning. I use Dettol bathroom cleaner and it seems to do the job just fine.

Hi there p1kef1sh
To be honest I haven't looked at anyone's bottom after appearing from the toilet, funnily enough hahahaha
I bought it in Argos and I guess they are going to be as helpful as a chocolate fireguard eh? haha I thought Dettol might be a bit harsh but I might just water it down and use it on an inconspicuous area, if there is such thing on a toilet seat hahaha
Cheers p1key

humbug25 the first thing I would do is go to where you bought
this toilet seat and ask the manager why the hell did my toilet seat color not fast, and e xplain it came off on your toilet wipe.
I just do not think that given the price you paid for a lovely purple toilet seat the dye should not just come off from using a toilet wipe like Lysol for example. after all say someone missed the toilet and peed on the seat would that purple dye come off on their skin? I am serious as I know it must have cost you a little to get your favorite color in a seat. then ask what you can use that will not dissolve that dye. I think that vinegar and baking soda dissolved in water would make a good germicide wash that would safely clean the toilet seat and not make the dye
run.

Hi ya Hatley
Actually it didn't cost a lot and that is probably why the dye is coming off hahaha. Thank you so much for advising me on what products I can use, I am sure it won't smell too good but hey I will have a clean toilet seat that is still purple.
Many thanks Hatley

if vinegar removes the dye too you could possibly try lemon juice, which works as an antiseptic, if i remember correctly.
that could work, but then again it might not.
maybe you are just going to have to get used to a pink toilet seat.

I have never heard of this before. I never knew that a toilet seat's colour could run. Perhaps you could find out from the makers of the seat what product can clean it?

Hi there carldavies12345 and welcome to mylot
Well thankfully I stopped using the wipes as soon as I realised what was happening and it hasn't managed to take all the colour out of it yet, thankfully so I don't think all is lost hahaha
Thanks for your response and happy mylotting

To me more it sounds like you would need to change cleaning materials. If the wipes are taking the coloring off so much, maybe try something else. Look at the ingredients which make up your current cleaning material.
It could also be the seat itself. Maybe it is a lower costing one or something. Maybe you should try looking for a seat from elsewhere.

U probaly are not going to like my answer, lol but i would probably take the seat back. I don't think the color should be coming off when u clean it no matter what u are using.
