London is Relatively Quiet Tonight; the Riots have Moved to Cities in North

The police presence has been increased some 3 fold from 6000 to 16000 following days of rioting, looting and destruction in London. Tonight London is relatively quiet with only a few incidences. However, some cities in the north experienced quite serious disturbances. Most of it was in Manchester and environs and Birmingham and environs. It seems the youth are hellbent on looting the shops. Hoping that things will be back to normal starting tomorrow.

One mistake that I think the Police made in Manchester was announcing in the media that they had sent 1400 officers to London. When I heard this the first thing I said was that if someone wanted to do something in Manchester, whether rioting, looting or something else, now was the time to attack, and that's exactly what they did. The part worrying me is that I live just 30 minutes away from Manchester in Derbyshire and the Derbyshire police have also announced they have sent officers to London and Manchester. I'm just hoping it doesn't spread as I'm too close for comfort

The rich and powerful cheat and rob the nation, setting a bad example. The government, being Tory is in the pocket of these individuals. The government gives money to bail out the rich and powerful and cuts back on social aid to the weakest and most vulnerable in society.
Some people have a genuine grievance and protest, greedy, stupid people use this as an excuse to steal and riot and pay back those that they perceive as having wronged them
all the best urban

Short and to the point I would say. Just remember they have rights you know. I guess that is one of them, the right to be tasered.

This is nearly the freakiest thing I have ever heard of. When do these kids have to be back at school? I wonder if the little ipes will be brought to justice. I hope so. It is sort of funny in that the government worries about security and yet look what these spoiled brats are doing right on their own home land!

I wonder what the parents were doing while these 11 year old were breaking windows and stealing stuff? Did they never teach them about other peoples property? What ever happened to "Thou shalt not steal"

I was so sad hearing the riot in London. I do hope and pray that this will stop and that things will get back to normal and peaceful leaving. Good to know that London is relatively quiet now. Just hope and pray that peace will continue to linger throughout the entire universe.

I hope things cool down soon. Last I remember hearing, the last time you had a riot like this (can't remember what it was about) someone actually touched the car that Charles and Camilla were riding in. Hope nothing like this happens this time. I guess I'll hear all about it on the BBC World Service tonight.

Nations around the globe are having problems but there seems to be more violent ways of showing it when you have a few that tell the many what to do and don't do it themselves. The old problem of do as I say not as I do.
I fear we are to bear this type of behavior more and more as the end of time nears.

i hope the things come to normal as before ,i dont know who and how many are in loss with such incidents, what will happen to those who got in to theft of shops and destrction, will governemtn give some money or some insurance , why do htey do such things ,i am very happy with India as no one smashes things like that.Stealing and burning of shops is not there.I thin k if any problem comes then all will try to fight against it,but do not want to steal other things when they are in trouble.Thank god not making India as US and London.

Yes, while london is quiet, other parts of the cities are in disarray when people start shifting their attention. I reallu hope that things can become peaceful soon because people are suffering due to looters, who are taking advantage of the situation. IT's not fair at all, and even with police presences yet they are so daring. PEople caught should be sentenced with a heavier charge.

Prayer from the Philippines to people in London. In twitter, some of our movie stars here are having a tweet brigade to pray for peace in London. I wish things will be okay there soon.

i think it will be quieter tonight. as it is the cities where this is most likely to happen where it has occurred, and quite a lot of arrests have been made, so its likely the ringleaders are now out of action.
but then it raises questions about what has gone wrong, and hopefully we won't get trapped in politicsl posturing, and can have a real debate, though i'm not too hopeful on that one as i think a country gets the politicians they deserve, and maybe thats the problem.
