Leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.

Recently there has been a lot of furor about children left unattended in a vehicle. Of course on a hot summer day a locked car can go up to very high temperatures in a matter of minutes. So my question is - in what situation would you leave your child unattended in the car? Never? When it is locked and you're dashing into the store/petrol station for a minute? As long as the car is in view?

Never. Never, ever, under any circumstances. There are too many chances that BAD things can happen. It only takes a second for someone to smash a window and take the child if they wanted to. Or even to steal the whole car with the child still in it. There's any number of other accidents that could happen as well.

I definitely would not leave my kids alone in a car on a warm day. There's just no way. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing that, honestly.

My kids are all grown now but I never once left them in a car alone while I got out to run into a store. Doing so is irresponsible, and just plain out stupid. Temperatures here have been running over 100 degress with the heat index. Inside a closed vehicle the temperatures would be way over 120 degrees. Would you want to be left in those kind of conditions? Personally I think that anyone caught doing this should be put in jail.
