I finished watching the movie "Precious" a little while ago. That was a gut-wrenching, tear jerking movie. It was about a girl named Precious who'd suffered severe child abuse from both her mother and her father. The mother was extremely stupid and ignorant. I can't imagine what happens to a person who goes through this kind of nightmare day in and day out since they are 3 years old.

Hello dataminer. I saw this movie some time ago and found it very moving. It is not one of those feel good movies. Gabourey Sidibe was great in this movie. It is one that almost breaks your heart to see the way her mother treated her. but it is remarkable they way Precious over come her abuse by her mother and father. It just goes to show how resilience kids can be.

But some kids aren't so resilient; that's why being a good mother and/or father is so important to the outcome of the child. A child can turn out very bad, even evil, if not brought-up the right way and not nurtured with love and caring. It turns out very bad for society. I agree with you; it's heartbreaking. And the young woman Precious turns out really well after all that suffering and abuse. That was remarkable. And she turns out to be a good mother also nothing like her mother.

This movie was a very sad one indeed. I felt her pain after watching this movie and I have never gone through something like this. The mother was very ignorant. Instead of thinking that it was wrong what he was doing, she was jealous instead. I am sorry but that is very disgusting and a mother like this has no place in this world to be a mother. Then the child abuse she still had to suffer after growing up. This movie was a crazy one and definitely an eye opener!

Yeah your right; it sure was an eye opener. It didn't super surprise me as I guessed that children get abused like this. Yeah can you even believe how stupid that mother was and that she was thinking her daughter was trying to take away her man. At first I didn't realize the man was the girls real father; I thought it was the mom's boyfriend. Then later in the movie when Precious mentioned it was her father, therefore, I'm thinking it was her real father and not her step father that raped her and got her pregnant 2 times.

It was a good drama BUT I felt though could of ended it better. The behavior of the Mom I think is stereotypical of people who are not educated (and I mean with a high school diploma or higher) and is a somewhat accurate to how some people think. Don't strive to survive and do better, go on public assistance and like it as though it's a career choice (it was here til W2 came into effect).
"Precious" led a really sad life, sexually abused by her father and emotionally, physically abused by her mother, a teen mother due to incest/abuse, and of course she was learning disabled.

When I saw the trailer of that movie, I thought it's going to be a feel good inspirational movie but it wasn't. It shows our reality that is full of pain and suffering. It's really heartbreaking that she is only happy in her imaginary world. But all she experiences everyday is pain. In her dreams she's a star while in reality she suffers from the messy family she had. Mariah Carey is a revelation in this movie, I didn't recognize her when she played that social worker who wants to help out Precious. She looks different without makeup.
And I really don't know why her mother let her be raped, she have is very foulmouthed and violent too.
lol she doesn't shave

Yeah wasn't that something how she could take her mind away from whatever was happening and imagine all that stuff; that was really neat. The movie was so painful and heartbreaking; it's hard to imagine there's kids in the world going through that kind of abuse day and day out. I recognized Mariah Carey right off the bat; I'd seen her in other movies. The abusive mother let her daughter be raped because she was so stupid. And the stupid mother got so violent she throws something at Precious while Precious has her baby in her arms. Unbelievable.
