Does Anyone Own A TiVo? I Think They're Awesome!

I'd love a TiVo BUT we don't have cable down this street and only Virgin Media have them..so no-go for us I'm afraid. It's also more expensive than, say, Sky+ HD, which is the system we will have once the in-laws buy us a telly!
However, I have learned more about the TiVo and what they can do. I remember reading about them years ago in a magazine and they still do the same things but more efficiently..like remembering what you like and recording similar programmes, for example.
I love the fact they have 3 TUNERS as well. Mum has Sky+ and she cannot record 2 programmes at the same time whilst watching another. No such problems with a TiVo. Why Sky didn't go with them is anyone's guess.
So, do you have a TiVo and is it any good? Does it live up to the hype?

I guess you want to use it to record live sport or rock music.I have never heard of it before. As you know, I don't know my job in this respect, thus I can't keep on top of developments in this field.I bought a HITACHI mobile hard dish drive this year in order to keep my father's video .

That's a great idea and one I wished hubby would adopt.
John has MANY video tapes and I wish he'd sell (at least some) of them. I've done the same with CDs I'm not likely to play anytime soon. What annoys me the most is that he's doubled up on some titles. You know..got them on tape first then bought it again on DVD. No doubt if we ever bought a Blu-Ray Player he'd buy a blu-ray disc as well!

Hi Janey. This sounds very good. We used to be with Virgin up until we moved 3 years ago, but here there is no cable, so we opted to go with Sky. What I have done is got our old DVD recorder and connected to the roof aerial so that we can record from freeview on there, and then on two programs on the Sky box. It is not ideal, but we do manage to get to see more than we used to and sometimes we don't get around to viewing it all. There is a lot of stuff to watch and we are never really short of anything.

Hi Derek. We have a DVD Player only. Unfortunately, it was a machine bought for us by the in-laws (a supermarket model the same as theirs) so I had no say in it at the time. If I'd had my way we would DEFINITELY go down the DVD Recorder route, like you have done.
Oh, well, at least I have a say in the telly they're about to buy for us!

I did not have a Tivo but had a DVR, very similar and oh how I miss it. It was included with my Dishnetwork and to cut some expenses I had to let it go. I remember being able to record so many of my favorite shows then fudge out on the couch and or bed and enjoy TV time.

You still have the internet though right and we wouldn't see so much of you on here if you had the telly.
To be honest, you're not missing much..well, you wouldn't if you were based here anyway.
