I play electric guitar. It does hurt when you first start to play, however the more you play, the less it starts to hurt. I remember playing for like 3 hours straight, there was little indents in my fingers, it felt weird. The more I played though, the less it hurt, and my fingers got used to the feel of the strings. I also got blisters on my thumb when I first started playing, used to strum without a pick.

I play electric guitar and my fingers do the same thing. They get a little sore and start to peel so I just push through it and play. I know people that use electric tape on their fingers while playing guitar. I have a tough spot on one of my fingers from playing my guitar and I can barely feel anything with it because it is so rough. I recommend putting some kind of tape on your fingers or visiting a local music store to see if they see some.

You're welcome! What kind of music do you play?

By putting tape on it you are not accomplishing the forming of the callouses, you are just prolonging the process, by not letting them form naturally! The problem is you are going too long in practicing, thus going beyond what your skin can handle! If you cut that hour down to 1/2 an hour, it will not push the sensitive limits of your skin! In time your skin will harden, and the callouses will start to form, and then you can increase the length of time you can play, without damaging or hurting the tips of your fingers! It is not a process that is done overnight, it takes time and patience!

Its pretty normal since, I think, you're just starting to play this instrument. I also play the guitar, and when I was starting, I've experienced that also. But I never stopped, I just continue to learn how to play the instrument, and now, when I'm playing it, my fingers doesn't feel any pain at all. Wait 'till you're playing some heavy leads and you'll feel your fingers like they're on fire.
