Europa League is not so attractive as Champions League!

I don't know why the teams who participate in this competition don't take it too seriously. Of course, there are not so much money involved, but I guess it should be a motivation for every player to represent his club in a continental competition, which has a nice trophy on the end of it.
Maybe only the clubs from Eastern Europe want to win the trophy and the newcomers from the important leagues.
As for the fans, we see full stadiums in the Champions League, but in the Europa League we see stadiums which are filled only for half or not even that.
Do you agree with my observation? Can you find other arguments why this competition is not considered too important by bigger clubs?

Two things about Europa League make it that much less attractive. The format of the tournament is too long drawn out. They need to stop the third place teams in Champions league from playing in this for free. Secondly, it comprises of the second rung of teams, so they are slightly less popular than the top teams anyway.
Cheers!

@Rap, I do not think that they really make Europa League that much more competitive. Usually the clubs that finish third are weaker clubs. Once in a while when a bigger club fails to make the Champions League knockout and ends up in the Europa League, they field weaker teams during the Europa League matches.
Cheers!

@ram: I also think that third place from the Champions League shouldn't be given the chance to play in the Europa League, but I guess this makes the Champions League even more competitive. Because we know that usually teams that finish on the third spot in a Champions League group would also like to win an European trophy, and starting from the K.O. phase the Europa League starts to become interesting.
@Adhyz: Of course, the money is a huge factor in every activity, and so it is in football also. It is a well known fact that if you win the Europa League, you will get much less money from UEFA than if you qualify for the group stage in the Champions League. But if I were a football player, I would have this pride to win every competition I participate in, no matter how this competition is considered.

I agree with your point. I think the big teams don't care too much about Europa League because it doesn't have the importance that Champions have. It's like a consolation prize, so they play thinking in Champions.
The fans don't go to stadiums because there are not much famous players on it. But in Champions, even if you are not a fan of any team, you know the game will probably be very good.
The teams and players who really cares with Europa League do this to be known on the world stage. Happy mylotting.

So you have the same point of view as I do. You consider that only the newbies and the so called smaller teams want to win this competition, or the fallen giants, who haven't made anything considerable in the last few years in the Champions League? It is like a signal they want to make, that they are (still) here?

I agree with you about the newbies and the smaller teams. This ones really wants to win this comnpetition, because this is the chance to their players to be known and to the teams get better sponsors.
But the fallen giants don't matter with Europa league. Even they didn't do nothing in Champions for a lont time, the Europa league don't have the same status. They believe it will not help them, as I see it.
Do you remember about Milan and Liverpool a few years ago, when they have all chances to win Europa League and didn't do nothing? Happy mylotting.

But you'll see teams like Porto wanting to win this competition, when they participated. Maybe it depends a lot on how the leading committee of the team makes the goals of the new season. Because the teams evaluate what they have before the season and according to that they decide what they want to achieve that season.

Whether it's champion's league or Europa league, they are both leagues of europe. No matter which league teams are playing in, they should give their best because at the end of it, winners of both leagues will compete against each other to be the best club in europe. MOst of the time, winners comes from the Europa league side. What does that show? Champion's league are not just for champions, and even champions might not be the best.

You've made a good observation, but I guess the reason why the Europa League winners usually win the European Supercup is that this trophy is played at the beginning of the season, usually when the most leagues are not started, so the team which has won the Champions League is only in preparation, this should be their first official game in the season, so it is normal not to be on their peak. On the other hand, the Europa League winners come from Eastern Europe, or they are teams from the bigger leagues which have qualified for the next Champions League, so it means that they are becoming an important team, just like Porto was last year, or how the case of Sevilla was.
But all in all, you have made a great analysis of how things are in these two competitions, and I agree with you, a team and the players should give all the best in every competition, no matter the reputation or the prestige of the certain competitions.
