I have high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and digestive problems. From the three main constituents of food that can be bad for you which do think is the worst and why. I believe saturated fat, sugar and salt are bad for you and I know you need a small amount of these but am unsure which is the worst.

I think the worst of the three food groups you mention are saturated fats because it can harm both ill and healthy persons.Sugar and salt are needed by our body in moderate amounts and it may not harm you if you're not suffering from diabetes and hypertension.Besides, saturated fats is not needed by our body. As with your health conditions, you really need to avoid all these kinds of food.

I think you are in agreement with lamps there and I note your observation of my two main complaints and the care to be taken because of them. I will add that the conditions were brought on by lack of exercise and over weight.

You're right...Obesity and sedentary lifestyle can increase your risk for diabetes and hypertension. You need to exercise and modify your diet to decrease your weight and control your blood sugar and blood pressure.

See my response to #1 and you will see improvements have been made. You are completely right with your solution, unfortunately weight control is not the easiest. Getting weight off is not as easy as not putting it on in the first place.

Yes you have to not eat to much sweet stuff, not to much salt, not too much meat and starch, but the most important things is that you have too avoid is all the (genetically modify organism) in the food that you eat, best to eat more organically.

As you see it's been four months since I started this discussion and being aware and taking regular exercise has made me feel a lot better. On the last two occasions I had my blood sugar checked by the doc it was 6.8 and 6.6 respectively. I think I can live with that, blood pressure good too. Chicken and pork are the main meats with good beef mince occasionally and fresh veg. often. Think I'm doing pretty well but weight still high.

I'm going to say sugar. It's not good for diabetics and it raises your blood pressure as well as being hard on your digestive system. The other two are bad, but can be handled in small amounts. Saturated fat, as long as it's natural, isn't as bad as they'd have you believe. It's the unnatural saturation that causes problems. Salt isn't as bad as an unbalanced diet. Salt needs to be balanced with potassium. Sugar, on the other hand, is mostly not natural to our diets. We would naturally eat a small amount of fructose as is found in fruit, compared to the horribly high amounts found in almost all processed foods. Add to that, desserts and "treats," sugary drinks and on and on...

I like this response, when my digestive problems arose I found 2 main items caused a problem they were chocolate and gravy. Chocolate a combination of sugar and fat, Gravy a combination of fat and salt. Both food items are combinations of our friendly enemies, friendly because we need all of them, enemies because they cause problems if we have them in excess. The amount that can be considered as an excess varies from person to person as we are all different and also changes as we age. As can be seen it's hard to see which is the worst of the three from the digestive point of view but there are other health problems related to the three substances that caused me ask the question.

Just to put your mind at rest I am under good medical care and have been going to the gym twice a week for 18 months, when I first started I found it very difficult to control my heart rate during exercise. Heart rate would easily go up to 150 beats per minute, which is dangerously high. Blood pressure at rest was about 148 over 91 which is not really high, this now 135 over 83 and I can keep heart rate at about 120 during cardio-vascular exercise. I could do with losing more weight but I sure am fitter than I was. All my conditions are controled with meds.
