Animal Sacrifice during Durga Puja Festival in India is so common, Indian devotees’ line up with goats to be sacrificed at the temples. In some temples hens, buffalo are also sacrificed. The sacrifice of live animals is performed to appease the goddess Durga and to shower blessings on the community. Goddess ‘Durga’, who represents the infinite power of the universe and is a symbol of female dynamism, along with other Hindu gods, are worshipped by Hindu devotees for four days, during Durga Puja, it is one of the biggest Hindu festivals celebrated across India.

In the temple near my home, goats were used to be sacrificed, but this year we, a group of senior citizens supported by young men of this locality, could stop this, the devotees were persuaded to donate cash to the temple funds, they were issued receipts against this donation.
This was really a great achievement for me, I feel so happy.
I just wonder how the goddess can accept the killed goats.

Yes, I agree - what Goddess could possibly be appeased by the slaughter of innocence? Animals do not give their lives to us for use as food... we forcefully & unlawfully take it! The original Hindu religion never had any animal sacrifice whatsoever & everyone within that religion was strictly vegetarian. This was much the same with all religions the whole world over. They were great when the Master was alive, but once they left their physical body & the wicked, selfish, money-hungry & power-hungry priesthood gained control of things, they really turned religion on its head.

I've never been in a church or area where there are sacrifices of animals and I have to admit that just the thought of it is enough to make me sick. I've been an animal lover all of my life and that is the reason that it is difficult for me to accept the sacrifice of animals and even more those people that abuse animals because they make such great companions.
Our family has two dogs, two cats and a fish that are all considered to be members of our family.

We don't have such festival that needs to sacrifice animals.
However there are tribes here in our country that offer animals as sacrifices for o you their rituals...but not so many, just two or three.

Hai....i think u did a great job by saving animals. Festival are mean to be happy by sharing happiness to all. No god asks their own creation to kill. please stop this kind of superstitions and save animals life. I am very much glad to respond to this type of discussions which are very useful to mankind....

Animal Sacrifice is a common and horroble condition in human history, beacuse of man's fear of the unknown. In ancient times, human used to be sacrifice too. There is a famouse legant about HEBO in China, the god of river. When flooding is coming, you should throw a young beauty to the river to be HEBO's wife, if HEBO is satisfied with his bride, flooding will stop. Now, radiculous things like that will not happen again, Human beings are becoming more and more civilized and rational. The master Kongfucius said, do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire. I hope people will realise that if man do not want to be sacrifice, animals do not too.
