No picnic or a get together would be complete without medleys being sung to the accompaniment of the guitar. The old numbers will never die atleast not here where I live. They are the same old numbers - My Bonnie lies over the ocean, She'ill be coming down the mountain, Forever and ever,Sugar in the morning, You are my sunshine and ofcourse the never dying rounds - Three Blind Mice, White sands and grey sands. Is it the same where you live or are there any other medleys that are new to us here? How do you organise picnics and get togethers probably with quizzes and games?

"She will be coming down the mountain when she comes" took me thirty years back where once I had to go to a village on a ten day camp for social service. We were all in Our PG and it was a family of 12 girls with our favourite lecturer, a cook and servant etc., We used to sing this song singing "HAIHAI HIPPYHIPPY HAIHAI" in chorus and in the loudest of our voices. There was no accompaniment by way of a guitar ; there was one song which was remade with our own rogusih lyrics [where we were teasing our newly engaged friend replacing the original one in the same tune] and now I remember only the tune and our lyrics. Of course there were many other film songs which we sang with great gusto .
Picnics and games are never complete without singing.THey can be medleys or Anthaksharis or whatever but it is the company that really provides the fun. Once when we went to Tanjore I sang a real fun film song[one which has meaningless lyrics in pure classical music, trying it out in different ragas and it was great fun. Music is always great for the spirit.

Yes. Athaksharis was yet another thing that all of us included in our pleasure seeking! Everyone sheds their inhibitions and even the most introvert will be seen shaking a leg and that would be the most hilarious part of these occasions. We even coined our own lyrics. Here is one - Jack and Jill went up the hill, To fetch a pale of water, God knows what they did up there, They cam back with a daughter! Memories, memories, memories.

There are many more kalav but cannot be put here!
As for getting old who does not? That is the way life is ordained to be and at every stage there is life to be lived to the hilt age notwithstanding.

"knock, knock, Whose There?" This game was also among those we played. Strange that there are so many common elements at the global level.
