for me, roman riquelme is one of the best playmaker..
he had everything to be called great playmaker..
he had great vision, great passing, one of the best free kick taker...
but place and time is unlucky for him i think..
no one is doubt he is the best in argentina when he still play for Boca juniors..
but the situation changed when he play for barcelona..
i don`t know why he is not success with barcelona..
i remember that louis van gaal maybe don`t like the style of juan roman riquelme...
and i still remember that van gaal try for getting much more holland player in barcelona..
for argentina national team, the top performance of juan roman riquelme when world cup 2006..unfortunatelly argentina lost from germany in pinalty shout out drama..it`s sad..because i think this is the best time for argentina with a superb playmaker like juan roman riquelme for getting their winner again..
what do you think about juan roman riquelme...

Well, yes I think riquelme is one of the best playmaker in Argentina and the world in his era. He has good skills and intelligence. I remember his passing to assist for goal is really incredible and still one of the best one.I believe if he still playing in national team, player like Messi and Aguero will enjoy to receive his passing services..yeah, you are right, sometimes player born not in the right place and time,if his coach was Guardiola I believe he will be succeed in Barca.

whhen Maradonna become Argentina coach player, i think he should give one place to one of the best playmaker in argentina league..But Maradonna prefer to choose Sebastian Veron and i think this is the best mistake for Argentina..
yeah, I admit that Maradonna is best player but he is not best when picking the line up and pick up who is the best in every position for his team..

Like you said, Riquelme had everything in order to become a legendary player. Just like D'Alessandro. But both of them lacked the mental strength which is needed nowadays to become a very good player. This mental strength is called professionalism and it seemed that this two players haven't had this special ability, the so called "X factor" which makes the difference between good and great.

When D'Alessandro started to play, everybody was saying that here is the new superstar. He started well at Wolfsburg, but as time passed by he became more and more weaker. He hasn't evolved, rather became weaker and he has never fulfilled what it was predicted. But he had tremendous footballing skills, just something was missing, just like from Roman Riquelme.

I remember Riquelme as a hard working midfielder with a great vision. I liked to see him play, I thought for Athletico Madrid if I am not wrong. But, then he moved back to Argentina and then no news of him came out. So I just thought he had retired.
Cheers!
Ram

he is creative midfielder...A superb world class playmaker...He ever play for Barcelona but he is failed show his superb talent...But Villareal come and save his career in Spain league..And he become superbstar again for Villareal and helps "Yellow submarine team" for reaching Semifinal Champions League 2003/2004...it was a great momments for Villareal history because that was a great achievement for club in Champions League

The careers of many good players went downhill after joining Barcelona. Beside Riquelme, there are Helb, Henry (ok, he is coming to the tail end of career when he joined), Saviola, Deco and etc. As rightly pointed out, Barcelona lure them to the Nou Camp and tried to make them adopt to their style of play. Those players they are individual flair players who bank on a moment of brilliant, don't fit in. I have no doubt if Cristano Ronaldo is to join Barca instead of Real Madrid, he would have faded into the oblivious.

yes, saviola, helb, riquelme, gabriel milito and zlatan ibrahimovic is not success in Barcelona..
but i think deco get his great time too with barcelona..with deco, ronaldinho and xavi in midfielder become barca like a monster for their opponent..
why we don`t talk only about riquelme??
what is your opinion about riquelme??

He just needs timing and precision. He is maybe a good player but winning maybe is not just for him... He could try again next time

Yes, he's a great player, a great playmaker in argentina especially with the national team. He's the complete opposite from Lionel messi who excels at club duties but flatter with the national team. I would love to see both of them playing for the same team, and who knows they are able to complement each other well, bringing out the best from each other? The same goes Sebastian veron, who can't fit into Man united yet excel with argentina.

sebastian veron is wrong when accepting the offer from MU..he is only suitable in Italy league...thats same things for Diego Forlan..he is not success in MU and england style..
Yes, riquelme play together with messi in argentina national team and it`s bad for us when their togetherness in argentina national team is not long..
