I'm just wondering how many people out there use home remedies for a cold instead of going to the doctor or turning to over the counter medication. We make our own cough medicine instead of buying it, but I don't really know of any other home remedies to try out for colds. Anyone else use home remedies, if so what is it and what it is for??

Besides home made cough medicine, eat chicken soup with vegetables. It was shown in a test that it actually works. Drink lots of clear fluids and rest all you can when you have a cold and you'll feel better. To treat a sore throat, gargle with hot salt water and drink hot tea with honey. I hardly ever take actual medicine for a cold, but I do use mentholated ointment to help break up congestion.

I don't know that it makes any difference if the soup is from a can or homemade. I suspect that homemade would be better, but if it's canned or nothing, I'd go for the canned.
I've never tried to put Vicks on my feet. I've heard that it will stop a cough, but it just didn't seem sensible to me, so I never tried it. Chicken soup doesn't sound all that sensible, either, come to think of it.
Maybe I'll try Vicks on my feet next time!

I wonder if it needs to be homemake chicken soup or if it can be out of a can. I try to drink lots of water when Im down with a cold or tea with local honey. I use Vicks on my chest to help with the congestion. I've been told that you can put it on your feet and it works better..have you ever tried that?

If I were on your case I would go for an over the counter tablet instead of trying out home remedy. However since your question is about a home remedy for colds I'll share you one remedy that I learned from our school physician. Try boiling a clove of garlic and consume it as a soup. The antiseptic and antispasmodic nature of garlic mitigates the discomfort. If there is itchiness in your throat, try gargling a mixture of sea salt and warm water to ease the sore throat and remove the itchiness. Most of the times these remedies work for me. Get well soon honey.!

Hmm, garlic really? I would have never thought to do that with garlic and for it to actually help. I might have to try it out sometime. The sea salt and warm water helps! Always makes my throat feel much better. Thanks for your input hun!
