Potty training when there was only an outhouse

Ok so I looked at my sons potty chair today and thought about the fact that it was mine when I was little. Then I got to thinking what did the potty chairs look like when my mother was little and even before that. Then I thought to myself did they even have potty hairs back in the days of outhouses? I wonder if they kept a little bucket in side for the kids to go in or did they carry them out to the outhouse even in the snow when it was time for them to go. If anyone knows what they used to do way back then I would love to hear about it. It got me thinking as well people probably didnt dawdle in the outhouse like they do in bathrooms now reading newspapers and magazines lol. They probably went as quick as they could... in the summer to get out of the awful stench from the heat making it even stinkier... and in the winter because it was probably so cold to sit out there and do the deed.

I definitely wouldn't think that people back in the day would have spent the amount of time in the outhouse that they do today in the bathroom, I know that I certainly wouldn't since I've used a latrine in my life and they absolutely disgust me. Now, my grandmother said that when she was growing up they had a potty type bucket in the house that they would use during the middle of the night and I would assume that would be what they did to potty train small children as well.

I think the old outhouses back then would be so much worse then the port-a-johns they have now a days. Besides them I dont think its allowed to have an outhouse in use on your property anymore. Thank you for your comment I had begun to think I would never know the answer to this and since I am not around old people anymore I had no one to ask this question. People probably think why is she even wondering about something like this lol but I was just curious.

Actually when I was a teenager, some friends of mine did have an outhouse on their property. They had running water in the house for the kitchen and for a shower but they didn't have a toilet in the house. I guess I don't even need to mention that the house was torn down a few years ago. There are still some places where there are outhouses, but it is typically in very backwoods areas like eastern Kentucky and other very poor places like that.
