I noticed many countries has this culture to leave tips for certain public service. When we stay at hotel, it becomes common things to leave tips for hotel staff. However, sometimes we feel must to leave a tip, and sometimes we feel don't, this makes confusion on when the right time to leave a tips..Some hotels are also put restriction to not allowed give tips for their staff but sometimes we not bother if they are really helping us.. What do you think? How many of you leave a tip for the hotel staff when you stay at a hotel when traveling?

We normally hunt for cheaper accomodation like small hotels or hostels. I don't think the people there really expect their customers to tip. I mean, there's a reason people like us settle for cheap accomodation. So we don't tip. Unless, somebody does something really extra special to deserve a tip.

When i was a flight crew we used to share tips for the services rendered otherwise we have to carry our own baggage to our hotel room. Sometimes we can alot of tips from our royalty passengers. That was a long time ago. Nowadays since i am always in my country which dont really practice giving insists tips, i will only give tips if i get a really good service otherwise i dont cause the service tax and the goverment tax that we have to pay is already 10% of the services given.

I definitely would do that if they provide excellent service from the staff. I would careless if there is a sign saying do not place tip for any staff or so. If they had done a very good job, like 2 thumbs up, I won't mind give them some reward in cash to encourage them to live up to their service performance. It wasn't a bribery or anything, it was just an encouragement.

I am working at a hotel here and we don't service. Leaving tip at a hotel is all rights as long as it does not raise any issue. You must do your own wish. If you think that you feel you must give tip, just give it. No pressure to give tip when we feel we are served with good service as well. I myself never asked tip from our guest, because it is begging for me. I didn't like it. I would not reject someone giving money if they gave because their generous heart for me.

I feel that this is really based on yourself. I would normally leave a tip to the hotel staffs working there as it is rather hard work for them. But I would not do so if they are rude and disrespect to me.

I almost always tip, depending on where I am. Restaurants and salons are almost always guaranteed to get something from me. Just how much and in some circumstance IF they get a tip is based on the service. I guess since I've worked in the tipping industry I feel more obligated to leave one.

We do leave tips at hotels. We've never had a really bad experience in a hotel so we normally leave tips. If we are abroad we give tips in our local currency (Philippine Peso). Our friend from a travel agency told us that most hotel staffs prefer different currencies, maybe for collection purposes.

In a poor country like Tunisia it is important to give the staff a tip. These staff work very hard and they have long working hours. I went there when I was 19 years old. The barman had to stay up longer than the last guest left. I heard a tourist laughing saying he had been there from 11 in the evening partying until 4 in the morning. He was able to laze in his hotel bed sleeping until lunch time. The poor barman must have had just two or three hours sleep that time. How awful!

It depends on where I am. I know there are countries where people don't like tips, they see that money as begging and insulting. They get their income, work for it and service is a part of that. Other countries people live mainly from the tip or the people work for nothing and need a tip to make an income. In some countries they add a tip of ...% to your bill if you like it or not (wonder if you can call that a tip). But if it really comes to a tip I follow this rule. If it is considered as insulting I don't. Otherwise I give if I think I had something extra and it's worth it. And ofcourse how much depends on how kind you think someone was. I also don't give to people who ask for it.
