Sweepstakes and drawings....do you do them? Do you win?

I used to do them, and never won so I stopped. But now getting back into coupons...I see them more and more.
I was wondering...do you enter sweepstakes and drawings for "chance to win"? Have you ever won anything from those you entered? I assume "someone" has to win..somewhere in the country, but still...what are the chances?
And if you sign up or fill out the registration,,,whatever it is...whether you win or loose...what do they do with that information? Do they put you on mailling lists, junk mail lists?
Any thoughts here as to whether I should waste my time?

Is it about the sweepstakes thing online? I don't. And I never wanna try. I also haven't tried the offline sweepstakes, I don't know how it works.

Its both...you know the new car in the middle of the mall and the free dinner at the register at a resturant...and online with manufactures and such. You just give them your contact information and they pull an entry out of the box. I know tons enter...but I never hear of anyone winning!

Really, so maybe they're really just getting the email addresses of people.

I have won free coupons and a small amount of cash over the years. Its easy to do the online ones, as there are no costs. The ones that cost postage are good sometimes, if there are a lot of winners.

My grandmother used to enter the publishers clearing house contest every year, and when I got old enough I entered it too. Neither of us have ever won even an honorable mention.
I've gotten to the point where I don't enter any contest that is not local. Most of these that come to you through the computer are just a ploy to get your info so you can be added to their mailing list.
Actually, I rarely enter any contest anymore, and I absolutely refuse to enter one that requires a fee for entering such as a raffle. I consider these a form of gambling and I will not participate.
I did win a lawnmower once when our local hardware store had a grand opening. That is the only time I can remember winning anything.

Yeah, I figure your information goes to a mailing list or two! They gotta get something out of the cost of the prize! I entered Publishers CH few times, but then noticed on the commercials that the ones that win are always older folks....60+ so I stopped. I don't enter any that have a fee either.
Local might be the key if nothing else...the amount entering is lower than a state or nation wide one.

No I wouldn't waste my time. Like you I use to enter these whenever I saw them in the hopes that I would win something, but I never did. Finally I realized that it was just a waste of my time & stopped entering them. That & also like you I don't like my information being out there too much because I really don't know what they do with it once they have it.

Wonder if anyone ever thinks about that? Do you know anyone that has ever won one? Ever heard of anyone in your town that has?

I do not like to enter sweepstakes like Publishers Clearing House. You have to respond to it within a certain amount of time but the sweepstakes drawing does not take place until sometime at the end of the following year. You is going to remember that they entered a year ago? Also, look at the odds of winning. It's not worth it.
On the other hand, I receive raffle tickets for a drawing which is held every two months. I don't even have to pay for the tickets if I can't. And the prize is $10,000.

Never had a chance to win.Even way back in school like small raffles haven't experience to win even a single price.Even in Christmas raffles during parties I do always got a consolation prize, haven't experienced a major prize. But some people are so lucky in raffles, good for them.

My belief is that they just put people on "sucker lists" and then U get bombarded with junk mail. A trick some people use is to give a different middle initial when signing up for dubious things and then when you get unsolicited stuff you know where it came from at least. But I actually have 2 addresses, one for junk and one for real mail. So I never sign up for sweepstakes etc, but I do get the local restaurant coupons and other good stuff.

Not really all that interested in them to be honest. Granted, some of those prizes look rather nice. Especially the cash prizes, don't really have much of a use for the non-cash prizes. Of course, there are a lot of sweepstakes out there, that I wonder about the fact that "someone" has to win. I'm sure in many of them, someone has to win.
However, I do imagine that there are times where the fix is in regarding sweepstakes. Especially with those who offer prizes that are a bit too good to be true. It is really hard to prove or disprove, that some company shill is not "winning". Some sweepstakes are legit, some are not legit at all but its hard to figure out which is which.
