I'm putting this in Frugal because I got this through being a Bzz Agent. Bzz is a site I joined to try new products for free and get rewarded with MyPoints. Anyway, I was skeptical when I got a coupon for a free 11x14 canvas print from Meijer. A photo is a photo, I thought, it will never be an oil portrait. Well, I got my canvas print yesterday. It was a reproduction of a photo of my mother at age 8 or so with her brother and parents in the 1930's when they colored the photos by hand. Now I know what all the fuss is about, it is absolutely gorgeous! No loss of quality by increasing the size and the texture is perfect. It comes stretched on a frame just like a true painting and you can hang it as is or frame it. I'm giving this to my sister. I showed my neighbor and he was really amazed at how it turned out. He has several one of a kind photos he's going to duplicate and a couple he's turning into the canvas prints. They have a scanner there at Meijer so you can scan old photos and reproduce them. Anyway, if you're looking for a unique gift this Christmas you might think about a canvas print from Meijer's photo department. The one I got is usually about $30 which I think is reasonable for the quality to you get (so free is even better). I'm giving this one to my sister and I know she'll be speechless when she sees it--in a good way! Have you found am unusual gift that didn't cost much or was free that was really exceptional? Do you have any photos that would make great canvas portraits? What bargains have you gotten lately?

You did get your money's worth and It is both a precious memento and gift.I guess the 11×14 must be 1.1 ×1.4?,judge by that you can hang it.With the progress in science and technology, great changes have been taking place in our life. Some things were unconceivable in the past .

I wish I could be there when my sister opens it on Christmas morning. It is so lovely that I was almost tempted to give her the print rather than the canvas but that was short-lived when I pictured how she would look when she saw what it was.

It is better for you to part with it ,even if you treasure it so much, in case you should have a guilty conscience about that, I think.

Hi dragon, - All my adult life I have wanted a leather handbag. . Recently I found just the perfect bag. It is sort of junior navy /royal blue in colour, not bright, and has 3 sections. It has a shoulder strap and a short strap. It's very deep and can stand up by itself even though the leather is fairly soft. I have no trouble finding things in there which is a lovely surprise. It's recommended price was $399.00 and I paid $135.00. I consider this an investment. I can't wait to show it to my daughter because I'm sure she will love it too. Hopefully, many years from now, it will still be in the family...being loved, used and passed down but if not, I hope someone finds it in an op shop one day and falls in love with it and gets it for a bargain.

What a bargain! I remember years and years ago, my mother bought a leather purse. I was shocked that she would spend that much on a purse as she was on a very, very tight budget but she carried that thing for over 20 years and it looked great! It was a very good investment. Quality can be more economical than cheap stuff, especially with things you use every day.

great bzz report. I wish I had been offered that campaign, but we do not have Meijer stores. I have seen some of those canvas prints, though and that sounds lovely.

They are really great. Are you a Bzz agent, too? The picture was fixed in a paper frame like they mounted them in the 30's and it turned out great--my sister won't even have to frame it. I'm going to get a regular print of it soon because of the mounting; if it starts to deteriorate and stick to the plastic (old, hard plastic like they used to have!) I'll have a perfect print as good as the original.

Oh, my goodness...sure wished that was available in Canada!!! I have ONLY one photo of my mother (portrait type) and one photo of my Father, which my son put on as my screen-saver...and I would love to have them in a better state. Both, it seems are experiencing the ravages of time! As far as I know there is NO Meijer's in Canada! Is there a name for this process...sure would love to find out more about it? Thanks, dear!

Any photo shop should have a scanner and photo printer, have you called one and tried to get your photos reproduced? It doesn't hurt the photo at all and if I were you I would do that ASAP. I don't think Walmart has scanners in its photo department if you have that store there but if you can scan it at home you can have a print made by taking it in on a flash drive. If it is your screen saver you can email it to a photo company to reproduce. I have a lot of photos that are one of a kind. I'm going to start reproducing them by getting prints. I'm kind of like the family archivist and would love to share with my brother and sister.

Sounds neat. I'd love to see it! Heck I'd love walls that I could hang up pictures with out too much fuss. I'd love to have various pics of generations ago done up as you had. I did try to get those pics of my kids put into a collage and of course the store had a bird cause they were school pics. So I don't have the pic I was going to give to the IL's and I don't have money for ink

Do you have a Meijer near you? I know they're scattered through the Midwest but don't know how extensive their reach is. They have scanners you can put those school pics on and duplicate them all by yourself. They don't care what you're printing as long as you pay for it! If you know someone or someplace with a scanner you can put the pic on a flash drive and take it to Walmart and print it. Some Walmarts have scanners, too. Don't give up!

You should join! I've gotten so many great things to try, free food and stuff and extra MyPoints. It's called BzzAgent and all you have to do is spread the word about the stuff, talking to neighbors or family, writing reviews on the site, etc. My sister is going to love, love, love this print!

Personally I have never really seen Canvas prints, or think that I have not. If they really look like the real thing, then this is a Good thing for sure. I know many times when you look at old photos being able to keep them preserved while getting good quality from the reproductions. Letting us know that Canvas prints did turn out Good that is a Good thing for sure.
