Do you grant people's wishes?

Every Christmas time, we would exchange gifts. Several days before the planned Christmas party, we are asked to pick names from a fishbowl. Whoever we picked would be the person we will be giving a gift to on the big event. After we have picked the names, the department's secretary will prepare a list of our names and beside our name, we would write down what we want for Christmas. Yeah, some sort of a wish list. Of course we have to consider the amount we have agreed upon as the minimum value of the gift we will be giving. Since we have started doing this, I never wrote any wish beside my name. The others wrote what they wanted. And well, yeah, I gave what the person I have picked wished for as long as it is within my budget.
If you picked my name, and I have written something on the wish list, would you grant it? Or, would you buy something else for me?

Hello dolce_vita78! I'd grant you your wish if I can find them and they are within the budget agreed upon. I'd rather grant the wish so that it'll be usable. I made this error of not putting in my wish for our classroom exchange gift just to see what my student will give me. He asked me what I want and I told him he has to think about the gift to give. I received a flower vase. Now, I don't know what to do with the flower vase. I am not the sort of person who gets fresh flowers every now and then. I'd probably turn it into a pencil holder.

If the item in the wish list is within the agreed price, then I will buy it for the person. It's a good feeling to grant someone's wish. If they're happy, you're happy.
We should have done this! I mean, we did exchange gifts but we never made any wish list. It would have been easier for all of us if we did that! Anyway, there's still more Christmas to come. I'll remember to suggest this next time.
