I am buying a house and want to grow as many Native American herbs as I can as well as vegetabels and fruits. I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions as to what herbs that I can grow here in western "Taxachussetts" (Massachussetts). I know that I will not get all of them in this first year but for future years, I will be trying to grow more and more. I will be growing tobacco (without any additives) as well as others that I think that will grow up here. What suggestions can you give me? I will also be growing the "three sisters", corn, beans and squash and am looking for other suggestions as to vegetabel crops that Native Americans grew before the Europeans came. Incidentally I am of Cheyenne blood. I do know some of the answers but am looking for other peoples input so that I can have as informed an idea as possible.

I would say sweetgrass, mullein, sage... not sure what else. I know of a group on Yahoo that's run by an older Native American and he talks about many herbs for smudges, medicine and food. I'll get the link to it if you're interested.

I belong to many groups on Yahoo so yes I am inerested in any thing that will help me out. I do have several books but I will read as much information as I can to get this garden as good as I can.
