WEATHER or not?!

We had a high wind weather alert here in Northern Ireland from Yesterday evening which seemed to hit during the night...there had been power disruptions, there's a bunch of people still waiting for their supply to get fixed, and a Local supermarket's roof was apparently damaged..Their competition is on a nearby site, and both offer 24 hour shopping during the week..not tonight for the damaged one, looks like the opposition was cleaning up with business for now..I went into town to pick up a few things after work this evening, and the damaged store also has a card operated filling station on the site..the access road to the place had been coned off,the place was completely closed..there were a few traffic lights nearby knocked off their mountings, pointing the wrong way now,and passing the local small airport on the way in,there's a light aircraft flipped over on its back...I don't think they're meant to be left that way,but I never saw wind conditions here that could do that to a plane-we don't get tornado or hurricane winds here..normally...Ever see a flipped over plane?

I have had some rather bad winds right here close but not that bad. There were some tornadoes too close to comfort but I never personally seen any damage. We seemed to have really missed the bullet to say the very least. There are going to be a lot of times where the wind really does kick up something fierce around here and things are bad. I've never seen a plane on its back and I live near an airport. Of course if it really got close enough for me to really see it, as "near" is a rather relative word and there are just going to be a lot of times where any damage. I did see a fire from my house, when I plane caught aflame but never one flipped over. And I really do hope that I never do. And if I do, there is no one inside.

I must look into the story behind this one..if the plane had crash landed,I'm sure there would have been coverage on local news..but the plane is in what I'd consider a "Visitor parking" spot right by the tower/terminal building, visible from the road parallel to the runway!

That sounds pretty serious on your place. I hope that everyone is okay, and there is no further damaged done by the strong wind. In my place, South U.S. we were seriously enter the Winter season, and it is getting pretty cold during the evening and morning time. We luckily still have heater running on, and I hope that snow will never come this year. I pretty much hate to see snow and icy condition now.

Hey ShepardSpy! Long time but I'm baaaaack! Anyway I'm glad to hear that you are ok after all the high winds. Something similar happened here in Ohio a few years back. We do have Tornadoes that have hit, but never down as far as I live in Cincinnati. However, I thought that we would never have to worry about a Hurricane until 2007, when one blew up from the gulf coast all the way up here! The weather men all said nothing had happened like this for the area in over 100 years! I am pretty sure that once the winds die down again, they will get that plane right ways up in short order lol.

flipped plane - It's dark, with a phone camera, through a chain link fence! but You can make out the wing being on the ground, and a Tanker truck (the right way up!) in the background...
Hey,long time no see! Welcome Back! I haven't taken a trip back into town since then,so didn't get an update on getting the plane back upright or what damage was caused..I just remembered the airport has its own webcam, but it would be aimed at the runway holding area, not the parking beside the terminal, and having just tried to check,it doesn't seem to be working right now...

Yeah, I have been working from home for the past year almost in a virtual call center. I just got put on a project that the calls come in really slow, so I find myself with a lot of time on the computer with nothing to do! I figured, why not get back to the place that started it all! Thanks for the warm welcome back!
