Hi, friends, I have a health problem and I need a help.
For many years now I've been suffering from Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This is a chronic problem and I have to take drugs and make inhalations. But doctors don't prescribe different therapies. I asked my doctor once if I can learn yoga and he said no. Recently I've been feeling worse, I breath harder and I decided to look for other treatments. One of my colleagues who has asthma told me that she found help with tai chi. I'd be grateful if any of you can share some information about yoga, tai chi and lung problems or any other ACTIVE way of treatment. Thanks in advance!

Hi Fannitia
A Friend sent me this to my email as I am not here that much anymore but this Friend knows that I have COPD AND Emphasimia and she asked if I might be able to help
Yoga is not a good Idea to be honest
I am on the Inhalers and Tablets as well also my Consultant has put on me on Tablets recently to help the breathing
Also the other thing that will help you is to drink Hot Milk and Honey as it helps with the Sputum and helps with the Breathing Have one in the morning one at Lunchtime and one at Night before you go to bed it will take a few Days before you notice it helps, then cut it down to one at Lunchtime and one before Bed
I get a lot of infections and that is when I drink quite a few
Last September they had put me on a COPD rehab Course, which was good but unfortunately half way through I got very sick with Flu Chronic Bronchitis and a severe Infection on my Lungs but I learned quite a bit
The Exercises do help ............. Step on a Step and down again for 2 minutes, sit on a Chair and go to your Side 15 times each side just slide down with your Arm then back up, Ride a Bike ( you can get these little Bike pedals that you can put on the Floor so you can do it while you are on the Laptop or Computer) do this for about 10 minutes, sit on a Chair and lift each leg 15 times, sit on a Chair and move you elbow to the opposite knee and do walking which does help .......... in between each exercise have a couple of minutes Break....... if you can't do the exercises time straight away do what you can and just work your way up to longer times it was hard for me as I also suffer with my Lungs collapsing at times which causes a lot of Pain, but my Nurse said to just take it easy and as much as I can
You will get out of Breath but that is the Idea when you do breathe in through your Nose and out through your Mouth which will ease the Breathing it will take a couple of Days before you notice but it does help there is also a lung exercise you can do take a deep breath in and then blow it out this will make you cough badly but it brings up the mess in your Lungs
I hope that this has helped you and please do not give up and please ask your Doctor to give you a bit more advise and to help you on the breathing side
I still do all my own Housework I have to have breaks of course lol but that helps to but also make sure you rest a lot
Please let me know how you get on and stay strong

Hi, Gabs, thanks a lot for this detailed answer! I was hoping to find somebody who can understand my problems. I'm on inhalers, I don't take tablets. My doctor made me to buy a nebuliser but I don't know if it is a great help to me. Also my left lung collapsed once five years ago.
Doctors have never spoke about the right food or exercises. I appreciate your instructions and I'll try to do everything step by step.
I hope that you will get better soon and wish you a shorter winter! I'd like to say thanks to your friend who sent you my call for help. I hope to hear from you soon and learn better things. Don't give up too! Be happy!

Thank you Fannitia for the BR
I do not understand that you are not on Tablets because I have Tablets to help with the Sputum but again the Milk and Honey helps with it as well, recently I have been put on Tablets to bring my Breathing levels up
The Nebuliser is good I have not had to use it yet (thank goodness) but I do get put on Steroids and Antibiotic when I get really bad
Here in the UK the Nebuliser is always a last resort
I also take Vitamins called Evening Primrose and Cod liver oil
You might want to look at changing your Doctor if you can as I know it is different where you are but I have been under a Lung Consultant and I have Nurses that will come out to me if I get bad
I really hope this will help you as it did me if you feel to breathless then sit down and breathe in through the nose and exhale through the Mouth, it helps to calm it and do it till you feel comfortable to breathe

Hi, my mother suffers from this and is on oxygen 24/7. I myself have asthma and I do Tai Chi Chuan, long form.
Does this help? I don't believe it helped me but if it is a means to learn mind/body control then it may help.
I understand that steroids can help though of course, they have a downside too
all the best urban
