"Vindicated" being my Word of the Day. Haha!
Anyway, some of you will know that my FIL was trying to cream money off the Loss Adjuster re: our insurance claim for storm damage to the roof. He was trying to add things on, including the guttering and DECORATING in the bedroom where the water was dripping through the ceiling. He's only gone and embarrassed himself as I knew he would.
John came in this tea-time and told me that the insurers ARE going to pay up but ONLY for the roof..which is what it should be as it was only the roof that got damaged in the storm, not the guttering. John was asked by the insurers what the quote was that we got recently and he was then told that if he'd not given him the exact amount he would've been willing to give him £1,000. As it is it's now down to £735 but that's definitely enough to get the roof fixed.
The only complication now is that my SIL piped down the phone (when John rang his Dad from work) that "Sarah's husband is a roofer, get him to give you a second quote!"
For goodness' sake woman we don't need YOU to tell US who we should get. We're getting the guy who gave us the original quote and that's that. He even wears an overall. How professional is that lol. AND he has state of the art ladders AND has a brilliant reputation around Town.
So..Angela (SIL)..SOD OFF!

I am happy as I've been proved right. The Loss Adjuster knew what he was doing and this house won't be the first (or the last) that he checks over for storm damage, so he knows what to look for and people to ignore!

Wow!! Glad I am not in your shoes with this one, and hope that you were able to get this problem resolved, and went with the person who gave you the original quote. I think so many times people really are trying to help, or think they are helping when in turn it ends up not for the best, and the thing is learning to stay calm thru it all without hurting anyones feelings too bad.

Even if I were family, and I was a roofer, I would still tell you to get that other professional-looking guy!
I've learned my lesson not to try and 'fix' anything for family. If you did, and if anything goes wrong, you'll never outlive it. You'll always going to be blamed for it.
Your SIL should have kept her mouth shut!
