Do you ever read this day in history things? I have an online email sent about this day in history every day. and strange thing is, i was just in another discussion about journals when i went to my email and found out about one of the greatest journal keepers death in 2010 on this day. Miep Gies
have you read any of her stuff? its like the publisher of Anne Franks and her own journal. these were both so interesting. Not a Referral Link

Incredible to believe that Miep lived so long after what she had lived through during the war. She is a tribute to Dutch courage and fortitude and I am glad to see you have honored her here. I have read some of her writings on here website. I hope her family keeps it up on the net. Here's the link: http://www.miepgies.nl/en/.

Thank you for sharing that article. What an interesting life she had. I loved Ann Franks diary. It was a wonderful true life series. This lady risked her own life to hide these peoples, how courageous she was.
She lived a long life. I don't think I have read any of her writings. I will have to look them up.

I don't think that there are too many people these days that haven't read The Diary of Anne Frank, I remember being forced to read it when I was in school and then later reading it of my own accord because I got more interested in the second world war and also the holocaust.
I have also heard of Miep Gies, but I've never read any of her journals, it is something that I would be interested in reading though.

Iam from The Netherlands and she was a important person in the Anna Frank story. She was hiding Anne Frank from Germans/Nazis. She was doing a great job in the world war II and unfortunately she couldn't keep Anne Frank safe. Only the father Otto Frank survived the war. She is a 'legend' for The Netherlands.

Wow, what a story! I read the Diary of Anne Frank quite some time ago. It's a good service to be reminded of past cruelties so that they are never repeated. - Jon Wyderka -

I am also interested in these stuff and I also curious to learn what happened years hundreds or even thousnds of years ago and it is quite a good way to learn history since many people do not like to remember the books. That is a great journey of the mind. When I open it today, I see this day in 1021, the birth of our great politician Wang Anshi, in 1876, the birth of famous American writer Jack London, in 1928, the discovery of antitetanic serum ATS, in 1949, the begining of Truce Negociation of the Frist Middle East War. In 1947, our heroine Liu Hulan sacrificed and in 1976, the well-known detective writer Agatha Christie passed away... without it ,I would never know so many great things in a while.

it is quite wonderful how we can get so much sent right to our inbox from things we are interested in. history is probably something most everyone loves. especially their own countries. some like myself just love history from any country. you can learn so much about other people/cultures and why things are like they are.
