Olympic Soccer teams.

I thought the Olympics were meant for amateur sports men to be given a chance to show how good they are at their sport? Because in the last Olympics a boxer named Amhir Khan won silver and was a amateur boxer and from the Olympics he was offered a professional contract. Surely if the Olympics are about amateur sports players than surely the soccer teams that play in the Olympics this year in London should be made up of amateur soccer players as this would allow the England manager to spot any possible future stars. I think for this reason that the British soccer team and any soccer team that is in the Olympics should not be players who get paid to play as this means they are professional soccer players and so should not be allowed to compete in the Olympics. If you look up the Olympics on the internet you will see that it is meant to be a sport for Amateurs. I think therefore that David Beckham, Frank Lampard and any professional footballers from any country should not be allowed to compete in the soccer Olympic matches as this goes against what the Olympics stands for!

I agree with the concept of this. But as per the FIFA rules, they allow three senior players (professionals) to play. The problem is that these days the clubs scout players at such young age, it would be meaningless to have a tournament if we allow only amateurs. I think the fact that these people have to stay in the Olympic Village rather than big hotels is a small consolation of the Olympic spirit. Cheers! Ram
