We can learn from sun

India

14th January 2012 was “Makar Sankranti”, it falls on January 14th every year. It is the day of the year when the sun, which is considered the king of all planets, is in the ‘rashi’ (zodiac sign) known as ‘Makar’ (Capricorn). This is considered the most beneficial and auspicious zodiac of the sun. As the calculations for determining Makar Sankranti are done according to the solar calendar, it always falls on the 14th January according to the English calendar. Next the sun begins its ascendancy and journey into the Northern Hemisphere. It signifies an event wherein the Gods seem to remind their children that 'Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya'. (Translation: “May you go higher & higher, to more & more Light and never to darkness”). This day is one of the most auspicious times of the year. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country gather at Gangasagar(near Kolkata), the point where the holy river Ganges meets the sea; and at Prayag(Allahabad), pray to God Sun, next take a dip and wash away all the earthly sins. I have done this several years. The co-relation of cosmic events with individual life and values is one of the most astounding traits of Hindu Masters. Some things, we can learn from sun. Sun shines over everything, without any discrimination, similarly we should look upon all living beings equally, no discrimination on the basis of nationality, religion, caste or creed and gender. Under effect of sunlight the water from ocean, ponds, rivers, drains, springs, and lakes evaporates. It doesn’t keep the water, but returns it as ‘pure-water’ in the form of rains. Similarly we should gain knowledge, money, wisdom etc, but we shouldn’t utilize them for self satisfaction only, rather utilize for benefit of mankind. Sun draws water from drains, it draws pure water only, and similarly we should learn the good qualities from all around us, forgetting the bad in them. Hope you agree with my views. Please respond, share your views. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. 29/01/2012

Hello Sir, Our country is so traditional and we at different places have different cultures to celebrate 14 Jan. At present I am in Bhopal and this time on 14 Jan, I made Pongal at home as its traditional for me..but there were few sweets like Tilli ka Laddu (made by a Marathi friend) Peethe (Bengali sweet dish prepared by another friend) and also there was Kichdi - this friend from UP makes Yellow Rice/ Kichdi on 14 Jan. This year we enjoyed different traditional food and I'll explain the above to my children...Though i was in Kolkata for many years, but couldn't attend Ganga Sagar. But last week, a colleague had been kind enough to get us the holy water (salty water in fact) and i really feel, am blessed!

Ganga water is ganga water whatever form in which it is given. We believe it to be holy and capable of curing all illnesses. Professor Sir, how is your health? Hope you are taking diabetes medicines regularly and also go for walking.

Normally 14th January happens to be Pongal day when it is celebrated in a grand manner in Tamil Nadu. Also that is date on which "Thai" month starts and this month is considered a suitable month for marriages.

Yes I totally agree with you SUN has been a great inspiration to me throughout my life ...... Sun pours his grace in the form of heat and light and is necessary part of all forms of life on earth ...... Sun stands as a symbol of non discrimination as it pours its grace equally on all (yes poles are exception).... We must learn from to shine like sun ......... Hare Krishna ] Ganesh

This is exactly what I instilled into my children and finally my husband! I have native blood in me! When you insult a culture or person for not being in the norm, you have insulted me! My great grandmother was French Canadian, the same as Native American, just on the other side of the border! The more we practice being non bias the more tolerant and accepting we become!

Professor Sir: Your observation that we should do good to others. Look into the good qualities in others is good. But our people are so bad --My daughter has a house in a suburb area. There is an empty plot opposite to her house. People nearby use this place as dumping ground of garbage. Now I am thinking about that because I am unable to get a tenant for my daughter's house now after it has been vacated. Partly government is also responsible for this. Municipality never attends to the task of removing garbage regularly.

Raviji I agree with you, humanity is gone, there is lot of back biting, just now the neighbor quarreled with me, says the sand i have stored near the common wall is making his home wet.. too bad and vague. Municipality too here has same attitude, we pay tax for all, in advance her.. Thnxs for details
