We were just studying about electricity and stuff and I read in our book that that using extension wires is okay as long as it's temporary.. We have 2 extension wires which I have been using for years now but nothing bad happened...so far. Is it safe? I only plug 2 or 3 devices into it.. Computer + speaker or modem...and dvd player and tv.

it depends t o the kin dof extension your using if it can last for long or can bear a lot of electical plug to it. i also have mine and i plug 4 all in all, like my tv and my cable then electric fan and my laptop to it sometimes i also charge my mobile. my extension can plug for atleast 7 and its expensiv so it might be safe but we can avoid as sometimes it might get overheat that might cause fire if unseen specially if we forgot to unplugged it and we sleep at night then it will overheat. i normally unplug it of i sleep nor if i go to work and no one is at home.

basically "extension wire" or extension cord is safe as long as the manufacturer of that certain extension cord follow the safety standards for electrical components/device. The problem is some extension cords available in the market especially in our country doesn't undergo any quality inspection, since making an extension cord is so easy that even elementary students with basic electrical knowledge can make one.
Some extension cords these days have anti-surge capability, which protects electronics equipment/appliances from being damaged by electrical surges. It is safer to use than ordinary extension cords.

I have a cord that has has five plug ins in it(can't think what it is called)and I have been using it for about three years now with no problems. I think what they have meant is the actual extension cords that are used temporarily for lighting and such. They pull electricity and can be dangerous.

They are not dangerous as long as you follow the power rating on them. Remember the longer the extension cord; the bigger it has to be to handle the power. Of course there is another issue. It should never be where someone can trip over it.

I always check the maximum voltage allowed by each extension wire before using/adding appliances on them. Right now I have one with 4Pcs and it still didn't reach the maximum voltage. It's pretty expensive but I don't want to take the risk. You should check the maximum voltage allowed on your extension wire and it's capability.

hi! It is ok if your extension is quality made product, it's not dangerous to load many appliances. But if it's poor quality made that is very dangerous to use long.
