The propel flavored water that I drink all the time I just realized has 80mg sodium in them. I drink probably 3 or 4 a day. I am wondering if all this sodium is leading to more weight gain then I should have. I dont eat much and I just keep gaining weight. I have been exercising more and still my weight goes up. I'm at 119 today. A year ago before I went on the birth control shot I was at 103 lbs. Have you ever experienced weight gain from drinking drinks with sodium in them? Maybe I am just imagning that this is a reason I could be gaining weight. Only one way to figure it out I guess is to go back to drinking pure water that doesnt have any calories or any sodium in it. The propel doesnt have any calories but does have the 80mg sodium. I've always thought since it has a few added vitamins in it that it was good for me. What do you all think about this?

Maybe your weight gain has something to do with the fact that you don't eat very much. If your body isn't getting the calories and energy it needs from food, then it will store whatever you feed it and keep it in fat reserves because your body doesn't know the next time it'll get fed. I'm not sure about the propel though. I've always thought it was a healthier alternative and I'm not sure if sodium has to do with weight gain, although I know too much sodium isn't good for cholesterol and stuff like that. If you're regularly exercising, your body is going to need calories to burn off. Also, do you do cardio exercise? Because that's what's going to help you get rid of extra pounds. But as you get older, your body changes and it's hard to stay little and skinny like you were when you younger. I know this one woman who was 30 years old and weighed 90 pounds and it was very dangerous for her. Now, she's at a healthy weight and she's by no means fat or overweight. Just remember that your body changes and your metabolism slows down. Just eat right and exercise, but don't get discouraged by small weight gains.

My mother keeps saying the same thing that maybe it is just the time in my life when I will start gaining weight. I think I would understand that if the weight wasent adding up so rapidly as well as if I am eating healthy foods not fattening and exercising I shouldnt keep putting on weight. Until a year ago when I went on the shot I had weighed 103 pounds my whole teenage years until then when I was about 26. I'm nearing thirty but I just dont see my metabolism slowing down so much on its own I think its due to the shot. But I'm trying to not drink the propel and see if that makes a difference. I dont look bad I just dont look as skinny as I was and my clothes are all getting quite tight.

Yes the shot works the same way but actually usually people gain more weight on the shot then on birth control pills. The average weight gain in a year for people who are naturally tiny is about 9 lbs a year. I've been on it for alomst 18 months and I've gained 16 lbs. I guess I'm gaining weight at the rate the shot causes. I dont like it though. I want to do what I can to keep the weight gain down. So if not drinking the drinks with sodium in them will help even a little bit I am all for it.

Hmm, then the gain could have something to do with your birth control shot. I know that n the pill your body stores more water and you also gain weight in some cases. I'm not sure if the shot works the same way but maybe you could go online and look into it and see what other people who have gotten it say about side effects.

Well, there are lots of factors in weight gain. One is, as we age we automatically gain some weight. Then there is the food we eat, certain foods are fatty and full of sugar as well. Other foods like pastas and breads are all carbs and that is also tuning into sugar so we gain weight from that. Sodium is no good period. It might make you retain water weight. Then there are other things that make a person gain weight, like certain medications make us retain the weight we have and cause us to gain weight as well. Then there are medical conditions. One of them id basically Thyroid condition. Depending on the one you have, you could gain lots of weight from it. And Thyroid condition is more common in women. So, there are many things that could contribute to gaining weight.

I've always been very thin my whole life and many times have been tested for thyroid but I do not have anything wrong there. I do take 3 medications and two out of the three if I remember correctly can cause weight gain. I dont so much think its the food that I am eating that is causing weight gain as I eat pretty healthy. I'm not even convinced its the propel but figured stopping drinking it for awhile will prove if thats the case or not. I'm also on the birth control shot that causes almost everyone to gain weight. I'm hoping that with spring coming up fairly soon that I will be able to get out walking and maybe that will help me lose some weight.

Well, I know for a fact about the meds. I looked lots of them up and they all claim to retain weight. But age also has to do with it. And I know staying away from carbs definitely works. When I became diabetic years ago, I went on a diet and I went from 240 pounds down to 155. In like a little over a month. And I also found that I had more energy. The only thing with staying away from carbs is that you need to have lots of vegetables to offset it. Other then that, it does feel great.

I don't believe sodium in Propel drinks cause your weight gain. It may cause some problem to people who have to watch sodium intake regularly like high blood pressure patient, not weight increase. The weight gain may come from other sources other than Propel drinks, it is worth take another look at another angle instead of just the drinks.

Maybe, t could be the reason. otherwise some food also contributes to weight gain. in our area we only drink from chlorinated tap water. i notice our body does not gain weight and just stay the same with average body, not too fat or too thin. or t also have to do with the current lifestyle i have with a fast metabolism and we avoid eating meat laden with fats. instead focus on eating vegetables dishes mix with small cut of meat.

I am a vegetarian so I actually do not eat any meat at all. I havent eaten meat in 18 years. I became a vegetarian when I was 7. It could be just normal since I'm not a teenager anymore to gain weight easier but I really think it is the depo shot that I am on and I think maybe some of the foods I eat are helping contribute to it. I went to get the shot today and she weighed me as usual and then said you've put on weight and I said yes thats the only thing I hate about the shot is the weight gain.

Though sodium can make your body maintain water, 80mg of sodium isn't that much at all when you look at the fact that a lot of convenience foods will have 800 or more milligrams of sodium in them per serving. Actually, your saying that you don't eat very much is probably the most suspect thing of all as to why you might be gaining weight. You see, if you don't eat enough to keep your body going, your body will go into a starvation mode and that can result in weight gain.

I dont eat so little that I'm starving I just dont eat nearly as much as I used to. For instance instead of eating 4 or 5 grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner I will eat maybe 2. But you are right there is a lot of sodium in other foods such as canned foods. 80mg in a drink isnt much but if I drink about 4 a day it adds up. Its probably not that at all causing the weight gain but I figured I will stop drinking it for a few weeks and see if it makes any difference... so far all I'm noticing is a strong craving for a drink of them lol.

I do not think you can get fat of that sodium, but i never drink water with sodium. But it is really irritation if you try to loose weight and i doesn't work and you do not know the reason why i doesn't work. I think it is also very important to take enough exercise but you said you already do that. Maybe a idea for you is eat much different things because that is also very good to loose weight because if you always eat the same you get to much from 1 thing and not enough from the other. By the way how much is 1 lbs in kg? Because i do not really know if it is much or not.

Compared to a lot of people my height I am still considered skinny. But I weigh 16 lbs more then I did a year ago. I've never been this heavy. I dont know how much 119 lbs would be in kg. We dont use that system in the united states so we werent taught how to do it. I probably just need to exercise more. Every day for breakfast I eat two bowls of raisin bran crunch. For lunch I eat celery with peanut butter and sunflower kernals on it. Usually I dont even eat dinner. To me that is very little amount of food for the amount of weight I am gaining. Its kind of ridiculous and very frustrating.

Could be but I would blame the shot on it. I know from experience that it will make you gain weight because I gained a ton of weight. I would quit the shot and go for something else.

Yeah I liked the not having a period when I was taking it but the weight gain i hated.I guess the only option would be to try going without that water and see if you notice a difference.

Well neither of you will earn anything if you dont stick to the topic that is written about as well as write quality comments and discussions. If you write a quality response you will earn money. You will have to post a lot to earn a dollar but its fun. In reference to my discussion I went back to drinking the propel because I wasnt losing any weight so it must not have been weight gain from the sodium in the propel. BUT since I've been drinking more plain water its costing me less because its so much lower price then the propel drinks.
