i am not against love birds who celebrate 14 February as a love festival. Love is felt with the heart. expressing love on a particular day is really a need of lovers? or is it just marketing strategy? we can not imagine how much chocolate, flowers, greeting cards, gift articles such as watches, jewelleries etc are sold on a single day? most of hotels are organizing a special programmes for valentine's day and booked fully. anyhow LOVE IS LOVE. THERE IS COMPARISON, NO ALTERNATE. so friends start your shopping today and express your love to your sweetheart. HAPPY VELENTINE'S DAY!

That's a good point. I haven't really thought of that before. All I know then is that girls are often envious with other girls carrying out flowers and chocolates. And so I always hoped that someone will be giving me flowers and chocolates during valentines'day, thinking then that it is important. But somehow your thought about this being used as a strategy can probably be true. In the eyes of the business-minded people this is a perfect way to make business.

yup most of the holidays now adays have become more of a marketing strategy, and of course marketing plans than a celebration. it is how these big companies manipulate us buy telling us we need to buy this and that to show our love...

I think it is indeed a marketing strategy. But if you have a special someone and you would stand up this day just to make a point, then you'll just hurt him/her. If you reason out that love can be celebrated everyday, well, why not today?

I think it is both a marketing stratagy and a day to show love (as most hollidays are) there is no shame in companies trying to make some extra money on this love holiday celebration. After all is that not the marketing company's job? To find ways to make more money for the companies
